    Default Suffering from Spontaneous Death

Okay, something weird happened last night when i was running Invasion on Elite. Working our way through the dungeon with a pretty good group & my character just up and spontaneously died. At first i thought that maybe i'd been hit by a particulary nasty death effect that i hadn't seen (outside of my visual arc), but after checking the combat log i could see no reason for my death, no failed save, no damage... So i was brought back to life (because as i mentioned my group was made up of awesome) & went on to complete the dungeon. Then right at the end, as i'm finishing out, in an empty room, with my back to two walls, again I spontenously died. So I check the combat log again... nada, nothing zip. No rolling ball of darkness causing random effects in the room, no DoT effects, no monsters in the room & no traps.

Has this happened to anyone else recently, is this some random death counter that has been put into elite runs, or what?

Well, I can honestly say this is the 1st time I hear of absolutely nothing showing in the combat logs and killing someone.. however I do remember a particularly nasty bug that monsters used to "fall" on you.. and then you would have been killed by "something".

Almost sounded like the infamous "something", but if there is nothing showing in the combat log, the only thing I can think of is that your character is really having a time of things, and the cyanide tablets kicked in.

I'd never heard of it before... But to have it happen twice in 15 minutes was strange. The first time i figured it had just glitched out on the combat log, but when it happened the second time.

It might be a bug. A week ago, I was in Undead form, and died with no cause that I could determine. This happened twice in the Necropolis quests within about 10 minutes of each other. Since then, it hasn't happened again.

    Default happened to me

strangely enough i had the same experience when i was logged in last. i was running slayer zones topping off my kills and i was standing around waiting for a shrine to reset and suddenly i was dead. i thought the zone was clear. so i checked... yep everything was dead... checked my combat log.. then remembered i'd killed that for raids. in the end i figure either it was a really really weird glitch or whatever killed me died in the attempt (i happen to have a lot of instant death guards on this toon)...

there is one theory i didnt give much thought to but my mates are trying to assure me is the only option, i rage.. alot... rage clicky, madstone then run around with my boots on to get it to proc again... they reckon that whilst i was waiting for the shrine all my rages ran out and hence the death.. but unless my math sucks i am pretty sure i have too many hps for that to be the cause... i bring this up cos i am curious as to maybe that being a possible reason for your mysterious demise?
So..... fixed the ladder bug yet??

@SweetpeaI was running a cleric at the time, with maxed health, deathguarded, aided & with a a full list of defensive spells active. Then as i'm finishing out, i'm dead. So no, it's not a rage thing. And even then it would appear in the combat log as "[insert player name here] has died." I didn't even get that. I was just dead.

There's a rare beholder on one of the levels that I've seen attack through walls, I bet that's what got you.

Could have been the first one, but he said that the last was as he was finishing out and there was nothing in the combat log.

I'm going with the theory that the dungeon is haunted....

Rage running out and beholders through walls are much less fun than haunted dungeon. I reckon it's the ghost of a kobold you deliberately hacked up in waterworks. It's found power in the other world. In order to appease it you will have to do a whole week of crystal cove where you go into the instance and make none of the kobolds lift a finger to get any crystals.

Seriously though, beats me. If nothing in combat log. If rage was out you'd get the constitution falling message, if a beholder it would say. Must be the kobold ghost. You should have let it live.
It's a game. GAME! Only a game. say it with me now - GAME. There. That's better.

So your saying i shouldn't have taken that crystal from that ghost in that recent special event? I'll know better next time...

Weirdest thing I ever saw was back in the days of Euphonia´s Challenge. I was showing my bro the game and he jumped down from a crate and died. Not saying it was a pile of creates just 1. Dropped down from one and he was at -115 or something like that.

Obviously he just turned around and said "this game sucks"

That could be a lag thing. Every once in a while I catch lag coming off a box, or a stair, or whatever, and I'll get lag for a second. I unfreeze, I touch the ground, and suddenly I lose a big chunk of HP. I vaguely recall a thread or something on the wiki about this if you're more curious than me.

But yeah, it's a thing. It happens.

Yes it has happened to me.

I was standing in the end room of recovering the lost tome normal difficulty after completing and while recalling I was suddenly at -100 some HP. Nothing in the combat log and I was at 80 something HP just before...

But damage by falling shows up in the logs and also caps at 80 or so.

You ocasionally perform a 'skyrocket jump' where you only see it on the flicker of a moment.
But when it happens outdoors it might last enough to press screenshot.

The risia event was full of entertaining lag, you could get aerial views of the harbor, along with the funny tilted map bug (now listed as fixed).

Actually you can duplicate this bug. When you first log in if you've got lag that stops you from moving (which is common), just keep still & keep on pressing jump. It looks a little like your sneak humping, but once it gets unlagged you are rocketed into the sky & if you have a feather fall item on, you sometimes have time to take screenshots.

Or you can do it all over the place if you have an awful connection...
