Default Voice chat not working anymore

So recently, I stopped being able to hear voice chat entirely. All other game sounds work normally, but I hear nothing with voice. It was previous working though too quiet. I now bumped all sounds to .10 except voice and master and increased my computer volume, still nothing; the enable voice checkbox is checked.

    Any ideas?

look in audio options and make sure the device it's using is your headphones/microphone whatever is appropriate to your setup. Also make sure they are plugged in before you start the game up.

Well, that can't really be the problem given that the rest of in game sound is working, can it?

Game sounds and voice chat in DDO have separate settings, and can actually be routed to two different audio devices, so it's a real possibility.

    I see I'm not alone!

I've talked to tech support many times and I've gotten nowhere beyond their suspecting it might be my ISP zapping it thinking it's torrent traffic. They suggested talking to my ISPs tech support--but all that accomplished was a blanket denial from someone (a level 2 tech) who either didn't know or was covering up--I *KNOW* they try to zap torrent traffic but she categorically denied this.

For me it comes and goes but it's at least 90% silence.

It's to the point that I'm considering trying a VPN to see if getting around their filtering makes it work.

Did you adjust your surround sound settings lately?

I've found on my system, I need to set my system to stereo only, at least when I use my headphones. Otherwise, I can't hear anyone when I'm set to use my full 4.1 surround.

No, I haven't messed with the sound system other than in troubleshooting. Note, also, that it is erratic. Yesterday I heard people for a minute without so much as touching the game. (We were filling a group, by the time it was full the voice had cut out again.)
