Default Just Not in the Cards

As some of you may know from me asking for ship buffs every 30 minutes, you might've realized Ay and I have been trying to 2 man this quest for the past 2 days. Well after about 15 tries I think it's time to hang up the gloves. Here's how far we got:

Maybe if i was THF Barbarian I could dps her better

Glorious Try guys. Sometimes it just can't be done, but I'd like to see anyone else get as far as you guys did.

We entered the fight at 32 mins, in 20 mins this is what we could do. It s definately a challenge, and i dont usually give up, but this is close to if not impossible to duo. We put a lot of time and effort into it.

Seeing that after 20 mins we got her to about 2/3rds the remaining 12 minutes wouldnt have been enough to beat her, with Teth out of rages, boosts etc.

Kinda saddens me that we have to give up.

We tried really hard, gj Teth for the effort, and max thanks for the time you put into it.

Good luck to whoever else might try it.

so a back of the envelope calculation is whcih?

she has approx how many hp and how much dmg/min could you do with both sorc (i guess polar ray) and melee?

so if you kept chuggin sp pots how many would you go through and given the rate of casting etc would it be enough?

i can't even begin to imagine trying to do this. it's absolutely awesome you guys got this far.

I wouldn't be surprised if you could get it done with cold savant. Even though the curses don't stack, they should give you enough incremental damage on the various cold spells to get farther ahead of her regen. It would also incrementally help Teth if he's using his dual triple water khops.

The secondary option is to go air savant and give teth a lot of extra incremental damage from his Lit2's.

This would be the more acceptable way to do it I think.

Maybe Tech and Ay should test this feat on Lam?

We wanted to do it pre U9 as doing it with the new savants/fvs pres would be in our opinion a bit easier than if we were to accomplish it pre u9.

I don't see the FvS Pre making it too much easier, but with Air Savant, it would make 2 things easier, the DPS from Lit2 Khopesh and Ay's kiting ability (air's abundant step).

I think you guys should try it on Llama Land and see if it's actually doable. Should still be a great challenge.

Trust me. The fvs pre with divine punishments would make dpsing Velah a cakewalk. Throw in bb's to kite, no need for silver flame pots, and wings for ultra high speediness, yea. It should still be a challenge, you are most certainly right.

How did you guys manage the bases/djinni though? Saw this done with 3, which seems easy to understand. How did only 2 affect it?

Well, that took all but 15 tries to do, lots of coordination, lots of resources, and also a bit of luck. Out of the 15 tries we only managed to face the dragon 2 times. I m ok with posting our tactic, so if Teth wants to he can do the write up.

Zone in, buff, run to fire. Ay hypno's, I dps djinni and kill him, prep pillar, re-prep djinni to 1%. Next head to mephit. Same tactics as fire. Head to ice. Shield block and let Ay hypno and energy drain renders. Prep djinni to arounf 50%. Symbol flensers and dbf them. Ddoor. I go to fire. Ayspam runs over to mephit. Wait for pillar to be destroyed. Kill remaning djinnis and pillars. Ddoor to beginning and start dragon fight.

You should have taken me along.

Sure I would have died in the first few moments.

But my ghost could have sat back and called "smoke!" without drawing any agro or (obviously) taking any damage (being dead already).

    "Strategery" - Look it up.

    Seriously though, impressive effort.

    You'll get 'em next time.

    The key numbers:

    HP - exactly 350k
Regen - Believed to be 250hp/sec
Velah's main defenses: Irrelevant AC, 25 Ref save, 33 Fort save (and of course, immune fire). She is partially immune to debuffs (most wear off more quickly than usual)
Velah's To-Hit: Slightly over 100 (so AC is not at all relevant in this fight except maybe against the Claws of Velah)

Assuming you have 2000 seconds once you engage her (33 minutes), you need to sustain 425 DPS to kill her. Being forced to equip a triple fire absorb weapon every ~30 seconds to survive the breath (or run and hide) slows down DPS output too.

425 DPS is easily manageable 'on-paper' for a duo even taking into account the breaths. However, add into this the trash, the healing requirements, and occasional deaths, and IMO you've done well to get to where you have. Beating the pillars duo is an impressive achievement on its own.
    I don't have a zerging problem.

    I'm zerging. That's YOUR problem.

How exactly did you get these figures?
I know vanshilar mentioned finding out HP would be incredibly difficult, giving the completely unknown/unstoppable regen.

Saves I gues you can get after doing a ton of casts and examining the results, but definetely no easy task.

Did you guys try prepping all 3 djinns then Ayspam sit on the bridge bewteen 2 and 3 and hits 2nd base Djinn with polar ray and follows up with a quick disintegrate to the pillar then same thing to 3rd base while Teth handles a base by himself? With enlarge it seems like it might work. Would save time too. But then again i've never used the Enlarge feat on a caster so not sure of it's actual range increase nor which spells it works for...
