Being the smartest guy in your guild is like being a one legged man in an ass kicking contest.

This is coming from a guy who is the smartest person in his guild ... though it is a guild of one. Being in a guild of one does help from being out smarted by someone else in the guild. Doesn't prevent it, but it helps.

I did not neg rep you... but I am confused as to which was your serious question, and which were your non-serious questions. Here's your OP, perhaps you can clarify your meaning which will help me identify which was your serious question:

If I declare I'm the most intelligent person in my guild without some sort of evidence, clearly my ego is quite large enough. If there's been some kind of guild contest that 'proves' my intelligence over my fellows, then I suppose my first action ought to be questioning my own superior intelligence in joining a guild that thinks such a contest is conducive to team building and guild cohesion, rather than worrying about my ego) Or would you rather go to some other guild where someone else can handle all that? (Third question. if there's a guild in DDO that can handle a new player joining and proclaiming their superiority over all the other players in the guild, then I dont' think I want to be a part of that guild) Or maybe you are the one that needs help (is this a question or a statement? • I think I'd keep quiet about it, because every time I made any kind of mistake that someone else avoided, I would be mocked for supposedly being the most intelligent person in the guild.

• I think their intelligence is somewhat in question.

I'm up to guild number 3. Not that intelligence comes into the equation just that in some other guilds that I've been in I didn't have enough in common with my guildmates.

Hopefully now I've found a guild where I'll be happy. If you're not happy, tell your guild mates you want to take a break for a while.
