So, I'm running on my rogue and decide to join a group doing Xorian Chiper. There is this paladin in the group deciding that he wants to be the 'leader' of the party so he starts barking orders... (Mind you, he doesn't even have the star) and the whole time you can tell he obviously doesn't know the quest that well even. I don't think I've seen anyone bark an order and ask a million questions in a couple sentences before now. Anywho... dude is already ****ing me off. We go to grab the last key for the chest room, and *ding* He rushes head first into the traps, followed very closely by more orders to get him to a shrine.

Here is where it gets interesting. I head off to the chest room to undo the traps and grab me some loot! I gotta have my loot, though sadly I got nothing that great. Anywho... following shortly after the last chest is ripped open, this dude like has a mild panic attack that I opened all the chest. So... apparently the new rumor is that waiting till the end of the quest gets you better loot.

Anywho... long story short, fail rumors and I want to push another guy to the bottom of The Pit.

Next time tell him that is only true of even level quests that have even number of chests. And that odd level quests with odd numbers of chests should be opened before completion for better loot.

While he tries to figure out which of those two categories the current quest belongs in, you can recall, get your end reward, and be in the next party.

It's quite a well known fact amongst power gamers that if you leave all chests unopened until the quest is complete, and then start looting from the end chest backwards that all loot is increased, the level of the loot stays the same, but the quality of the loot is better, ie rolling fixed higher dice.....

I started this rumour on Ghallanda at least a month ago, I'm surprised it took so long to reach your shores....

common knowledge is that you have to run 3 circles around the chest while you diplo it to get better loot...that guy clearly doesnt know what hes talking about

I woulda told him this is only true if no one dies in the quest and if the traps are disarmed and not activated. Might make him think twice about charging into a room head first

This is actually an old rumor that recirculates periodically. Generally with some noob (like your pally) who just heard it for the first time and went into panic mode (ZOMG DONT OPEN THE FIRST CHRONO CHEST OR THE OTHER TWO WONT SPAWN!!!!) I actually fell victim to the Chrono rumor for some time, cos it was new ad there was no way to disprove it other than popping the chest and testing the theory -- which no one was willing to do. Then one day someone told everyone to stuff it and did it anyway -- and forever removed the scales from our eyes. Now its POSSIBLE that it may have been bugged when it was new, but more than likely, when the quest first came out, folks who didnt know HOW to spawn the chests assumed they got screwed because they didnt wait and that perpetuated the rumor. Funny thing is, I still hear it from time to time when I lead a Chrono -- and I make it a point to squash it right away.

I think the rumor your pally referenced was started by someone who got sick of ppl running up to the chests in quests and looting while the rest of the party was still fighting. Since loot is obviously the driving factor for that type of person, what better way to get them to wait (and theoretically HELP) than to tell them that doing so increases the chance of getting better loot? Its not as if you can PROVE it one way or the other, given the random nature of loot, without direct intervention/comment from a dev, right?

Hate it when that happens. I approved of it so I got you some back.

What I've found though was skipping all the chests cause they take so long to get makes your end reward about 50x's better. I've gotten nearly all 10 of my vibrant purple and pale lavendar iouns that way.
