    {Single fire quests}
Proof is in the poison - Challenge
The pit - Puzzles, Challenge, and Story
Chronoscope - Story, Reward (loot), Fun challenge

    {Chain quests}
Waterworks - The first real chain quest you get. Really fun and involving. Can overcome the quests in multiple ways. Decent end rewardsfor non vet status players.
STK - A pretty expansive quest (even for only 3 parts) with a lot to offer. I loved the challenge of the traps and the fights. The shrine placement was heavy in some parts, and thin in others. And that added to the challenge at times.
Catacombs - The first chain or time you run into a wraith (pre necro at least). Very intense and interesting challenge to say the least. Most interesting end battle for that level.

I personally like the fact that a guildy can message me, I can grab shipbuffs and be in the quest within 5 minutes total (if not in a wilderness zone).
The let's walk 10 minutes to the city so we can take the teleport\horse\whatever and walk another 30 to the dungeon doesn't really get extra points for me.

Same here! I have a real life that competes vigorously for my attention. If I can't digest my MMOs in 30 minute increments I wouldn't be playing.

The ability to get into quests quickly is the single biggest selling factor for my participation in DDO.

Graveyard - Deleras, Dead Girls Spellbook, and that one where Zombies attack the gate - those were very well designed quests, you don't see enough timed quests and I think there is something to be said for having a quest with a time limit

All of GH - I don't like the crucible so much, but all in all the quests out there are really what I see DDO being - difficult at times, long enough and sparse enough that a caster has to waste resources if he wants to dominate, or put up with melees killing; casters, archers, actual uses for multiple resists, buffs, protections, ect and of course the slayer area is well designed.

Waterworks - i honestly believe this should be the next Epic quest after GH epic. It SCREAMS for a level 20 pass. The story is good, and xp is great, its long enough at level that you really get into it without being STK-im-lost-and-took-2-hours-to-get-through-first-time-with-no-help. There are no "tricks" to waterworks, just a good quest series, good story line, and (for the level) good loot.

But I honestly think my favorite is Kobolds new ringleader is my overall favorite with the running with the devils a close second.
    - my reputation says nuetral, my character sheet says Chaotic Good!

And I've put a lot of work to make sure that the Minotaurs would have access to all the rooftops that you can get to. After all, they built that city (on rock and roll...).

The real reason is not that hard to guess. Game balance.

Come Out and Slay. Reminds me of a game called Thief which I really enjoyed. I like prowling rooftops.

The one out in Three Barrell with all the traps and puzzles. I can't remember if it is called the Scoundrel's Run, or if the run is the other one with the statue parts.
What do you mean a -6 armor class is no good any more?

    My favorite quests would be

    The Chamber of Raiyum
All quests in Delera's graveyard Delera's (The Keeper's Sanctuary could use a boost in xp and named items department)
    Black Anvil Mines
    The Prison of the Planes
The Troglodytes' Get/Old Grey Garl, like the dungeon design
Rainbow in the Dark, fun soloing this quest with my cleric

What I really like are most are the Original and Mod 1-3 dungeons are atmosphere and dungeon design, which I fell the most (not all) of the newer quests are lacking.

Quests I hate are those start off at a fast-paced then slow down to a craw (Kolbold Assault, The Weapons Shipment, Crystal Cove) and quest with nicely design options that no one never does because it out of the way or the quest is completed so why bother (The Weapons Shipment, Mired in Kobolds).

Invaders! Hard enough to be a total challenge, variety, good xp, good rewards... this one has it all.

    Thanks, Starship.
The real reason is not that hard to guess. Game balance.
I know why that's the case, but it is still disappointing that much of the game has to make big sacrifices in terms of player options and variety in order to accommodate the AI. It's unfortunate that one of the most common ways to change the route to victory in a quest is through jumping (and similar abilities) and that the AI doesn't deal with that well, and that the devs don't like when players bypass stuff, so those things get changed or prevented.

The issue here, at least, is that we're fighting along on rooftop-like structures, but they don't actually function in that way--you don't need to go inside and find stairs up in order to reach the roof.

I know that perching is cheesy due to the inability for the AI to jump, or use effective ranged tactics, or choose to say, "**** this ****. The guy can sit up there and rot for all I care! I'm getting a drink." That doesn't mean that I like the limitation. Too many of our dungeons are fairly linear with very little room for creative approaches to fights or dungeons.

Except . . . that very same quest has an alternate route, officially sanctioned, complete with a bonus chest. It's possible to get through there only killing the boss.

(I do agree with your basic point, though, regarding too many artificial limitations on approaches. I just think Framework is a bad example of a linear quest.)

I merely brought up the linearity as part of the overall...observation...complaint...whatever.

Also, while I really enjoyed the quest, I haven't actually played Framework much. It came out as my TR'ed wizard was just getting out of that level range. I 2-manned most of the free Lordsmark quests with Sirgog on his caster, which basically means blitzing through content at lightning speed, making a bee-line for completion, even if the putz did DC at the final fight of Framework for 10 minutes. Leaving me alone with the bosses on hard or elite. Heh.

My plan for my TR'ed rogue is to hit all of those quests 2-5 times each, to get a better feel for them and explore a bit.

If I built the city with indoor stairs, the buildings would have to be larger and the map would have to be much larger as a result. The map of the area is large enough as is. Indoor stairs, outdoor stairs, whatever. The important part is that I don't let you get bored while you snipe at my little minotaurs from the bell tower *bullrush* *punt*.

    Thanks for flying Matador airlines.

Honestly, I'd find it a lot more interesting if the minotaurs were bullrushing us off the structures more, and if that effect had more of an impact upon us.

That goes partly back to my disappointment with how limited the game engine, and especially the AI, is in some ways, but also to how cheesy the abundance of simple items like Featherfall and Underwater Action makes some parts of the game. I'd welcome a change to FF items that caused them to only work for a short period of time--automatic activation after falling greater than 10 feet (must be worn): casts FF for 6 seconds or 10, or 20, or 30, but triggers a longish cooldown on the item.Heck, for stuff like this, I'd even be okay with the item being stuck on the character during the cooldown, or for the cooldown to globally affect all such items.

As for UA, after the breath meters changed I hardly bother with one on any character anymore anyway, but the principle is the same.

I heard rumors that Gabe Newell and some of the valve team are working on update 9...maybe they can make a partial or full addition of the source engine to the Turbine engine? Havok physics would make things a lot more interesting in this game...

DDO is a rare project, where we get to try out a lot of interesting concepts and we're quickly able to respond to what our players enjoy and don't enjoy with new content catered to those tastes. We also have the benefit of catering to many different tastes - Some people love traditional hack and slash dungeon crawls, while others can't get enough of puzzles, traps, and skillful jumping segments. Chances are, in DDO, that there's plenty of content to suit your particular taste!
Well said and it's absolutely true. DDO has something for everyone. I said earlier that The Pit and quests like it with all the jumping are my least favorite but I also understand why they are other people's favorites.

Prove Your Worth has the traps and puzzle. Scoundrel's Run has the statue parts. I like them both.

Stealthy Repossession, Prove Your Worth, Claw of Vulkoor, I enjoy. Spies in the House and The Pit have good elements, too. I like quests that let me exercise stealth and twitch skills to reach resolution.

The Pit now takes over second place from Delirium. While Delirium is almost universally loved, The Pit has the most polarized opinions of any quest in the game.

Delera's now takes over as the most loved chain. The Lordsmarch chains and STK are close behind.

I also noticed that a large percentage of the most loved quests are in the mid-game range.

There are a few surprises on the list. The Snitch is one. It contains a few mechanics that a lot of people in the other thread expressed a great dislike for, such as the linear "railroading" nature of the quest, and the enforced "gather your party" mechanic. This surprises me why there was still love for the quest expressed in nearly 5% of the replies.

I'm also glad to see the developers chiming in, and hope to see more quests made based, at least in part, on player feedback. Avoiding some of what makes some quests almost universally hated would be a good thing to see as well. It seems that, by and large, that is being done. Making very polarized quests, such as Spies in the House and The Pit is a good thing as well, provided they are optionals (not required to run for flagging).

There is a very good mixture of both new and old quests on the loved list. For the quests created since update 5 (Carnival), only 4 of them show up on the hated list. Three of the four are Carnival quests (along with two people who hate the Carnival pack in general). The only other one listed was Undermine, and the reason given was the Minefield.

I will be greatly interested to see the opinions of the new update 9 chain. Since I heard that a lot of them have respawning mobs, it'll be interesting to see if hatred of that mechanic continues or not.
