Try Alpha Protocol. It got somewhat panned by critics, but it was mostly for bugs which have since been fixed.

The gameplay is very similar to Mass Effect 2 (FPS/RPG with "powers"), although it's a bit more stealth-focused, like Deus Ex or Splinter Cell. It's made by Obsidian, and a lot of the guys that worked on it used to work at Troika, where they were involved in your favorite game, VTMB. (Which is also one of my favorite games.) The premise is a modern-day "spy thriller" like a James Bond movie or The Bourne Identity.

I liked it quite a bit. I liked Mass Effect 2 quite a bit more, but Mass Effect 2 is my favorite game to come out since VTMB.

If you've never played Deus Ex, though, and you don't mind a somewhat older game, play that instead. It sounds like you and I have pretty similar tastes, and I can tell you that Deus Ex is hands-down my favorite game. Not from nostalgia, either -- I first played it just a couple of years ago. The graphics aren't great anymore, but the gameplay and story are first rate.

    Default Shadow of the Colossus!

    SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS

One of my favorite games, ever. It doesn't have a lot of depth--you basically just ride around the world looking for a colossus, kill it, rinse and repeat, with very little explanation as to what is going on--but it is beautiful and strangely compelling. The game was made with pure love. I'm not kidding. Every inch of this rather massive world exudes the love the developers had for this game.

Each colossus is like a puzzle, where you have to figure out how to get to its weak points and fell the beast. The controls are rather simple, though the actions you take require some learning, and the fights are cinematic to say the least. There is a little bit of additional gameplay added in a new game plus mode where you start with more HP and stamina, which are useful in reaching a hidden garden (strictly for more eye candy). There's also a sort of time attack mode that you can unlock after beating the game that bestows further magical items for use in your new game plus. Most are mostly novelty, but the novelty is fun.

Honestly, I spent almost as much time simply wandering around as I did squaring off against these beasts. If you can appreciate that, this game is really worth playing.

Agree'd. This is one of the most entertaining-simple "heal thy brain" games you can play to get you rested up to return back to DDO.

    I enjoyed it very much!
