Default PSA on Stone of Change

    Seems this isn't common knowledge.

The Stone of Change is in the Marketplace, beside the Lordsmarch Bank. In fact, it is directly in front of it, just off to the right a bit of the doors.

At this "Stone of Change", you:
Bind and Attune and item. This makes it Bound to Character, and preps it for other Stone of Change related crafting, such as:

Force or Force Critical (1 or 1d4) Damage on a weapon, +1 Dodge Bonus to an Armor/Shield, +1 Alchemical Resistance to certain accessories.

It also contains tiers I-V of the Adamantine Ritual, which allows you to increase an object's Hardness and Durability.
    Why am I explaining this?

Well, after seeing an LFM up for about half an hour asking to get onto a Guild Airship with an "Eldritch Stone", I decide to be the nice guy. I'm no "vet", but after playing for a year and a half, I figured I could hook someone up with some knowledge. I send the guy a tell.

"Hey man, I'm not sure which altar you're looking for. What crafting are you trying to do exactly and on what item?"
"Does your guild have altar of ship? Invite me pls."
"Well... I'm trying to figure out exactly what altar you need, so I'm not sure. What are you trying to do?"
"Like... are you trying to add force damage to a weapon?"
"I'm trying to make my weapon tougher pls let me on your ship!"
"Are you talking about the Adamantine Ritual?"
"If so, you don't need on a ship, you need the Stone of Change. It is in the Marketplace, directly to the right of the doors entering the Lordsmarch Bank."

"No that's not it that's where you bind the item I need the Eldritch altar please invite me to ship!!!"
.... And pretty much the conversation continued like that for another ten lines where I was trying to convince him that the "Altar" he is looking for is one and the same with the Stone of Change, which he's obviously already used once. It included him saying at one point something like "I no more than u." When that didn't work, I changed tactics.

"Okay bro, I'm going to do you a solid. Since you don't believe me, I'm going to switch to a toon that has Addy Ritual V on one of his items. You can inspect the item, and I'll tell you the same thing I already have : The Stone of Change."
So, he gets my character name (I don't know why, but he was insistent to have it before I switched), I switch, I send him another /tell hotlinking the item.
"There you go dude. Bottom line, Addy Ritual V. I performed the Binding, and the Addy Ritual, *both* in the Stone of Change in Marketplace. Cool?"
"Please I need to craft let me on your ship for Eldritch Altar!"
He then invites me to his Party. I'm reluctant, but I accept, because I hope it can speed things up.
I get on the microphone, and without taking a break, explain it all over to him again over Voice, wish him a good day, and drop group. He immediately tries inviting me to party again - I have nothing more to say to him, I log off, I come here and make this fancy post.

Moral of the story? I don't know if there is one. Listen to someone who has already finished crafting their item might be a good start.

Seriously - some people just can't be helped.

Extra Detail : No, he does not mean the Eldritch Altar in Reaver's Refuge. It was a Level 7 toon talking about increasing the toughness of a weapon. Just thought I'd toss that out there before someone postulated as such.

No good deed goes unpunished. It's why I don't bother helping people anymore. Of the 10 people you try to help, maybe 1 or 2 will actually listen with an open mind and take heed to your advice. The others.. well.. **** em and feed em grapes I say.

If they can’t be bothered to follow up on the information then they obviously don’t want it bad enough.
Things worthy of Standing Stone going EXTREME PREJUDICE™ on.:
    • Epic and Legendary Mysterious ring upgrades, please.
    • Change the stack size of filigree in the shared bank to 50. The 5 stack makes the shared bank worthless for storing filigree in a human usable manner.
    • Fixing why I don't connect to the chat server for 5 minutes when I log into a game world.
    • Fixing the wonky Lightning Sphere and Tactical Det firing by converting them to use alchemist spell arcing.
    • Redoing the drop rates of tomes in generic and raid loot tables.

I sent him the Wiki link directly to the Stone of Change "recipes" page. He was just that adamant that he couldn't do the addy ritual there.

Adamant about the addy ritual. Failnoob. I'm just glad that I don't see the LFM up anymore.

I saw his general chat conversations. Some of them were even offering LOTS of PLAT for access to a ship with the altar.
I was almost tempted to get the plat first and invite him to airship after just so he could see its next to the bank.

I sent him a tell, actually mutliple tells, which he clearly didnt comprehend that the altar he needed was in the market. So I took him on our ship to our altar, he then tried whatever and told me it did not work. Again I told him yes this is why I said you needed the altar in the market, had him follow me to the altar by the lordsmarch bank and let him do his thing. Not sure what the deal was, intelligence or language, but there was some barrier that was difficult to breach.

The sadder thing is he is in a guild with I believe 61 renown, no one there could have helped him?

Edit..and I didnt see the gen chat or the money offer, just saw the lfm and tried to help out of niceness, not any need/want for material things.

Well good on you for finally helping him figure it out.

Our guild policy is pretty tight on ship invites. Certainly, inviting people on to craft is not one of the things that is normally cool to do.

I hadn't realized that he was trying to incentivize it with money, either. I just wanted the **** LFM to go away, and help him out in the process.

    Instead, it was just... painful.

This is true. I remember all the players who randomly helped me when I started up. All the explanations I got, and all the free loot b/c they didn't want to see me get screwed over paying too much for something that drops like candy in higher quests I didn't have access to yet. These actions inspired me to pay it forward, so I help newbs when it's needed, and sell stuff on the AH that isn't super rare for fair or lower prices. Stronger toons means stronger parties...this leads to better loot for all.

    Not sure either.

I have a now solo level 35 guild (all my mates defected to LOTRO).

Still, I've never asked for an invite to use an altar.

I figure, if you're Shroud crafting then you'll have to run a Shroud again soon so do your crafting then.

Yeah that lfm up was there for a while..I know because I had finished with one thing..then went afk for a while cooking dinner/feeding the kiddos etc, then came back to it still being up, so figured Id help him out.

I realize you don't set your guild policy, so this is not directed at you per se, I just don't see the point in a policy like that. If it becomes abused that people are constantly on your ship that's one thing, which I guess I can see happening when you are on the top 3 of the guild renown, some may just send all their requests to your guild. Personally, I rarely get asked for a ship invite, and it's generally while on the lowbie or before a raid, and frankly why would'nt I want my party member to have some helpful buffs that will save us time in the quest so we don't have to give them certain buffs, or just in general make them a more effective/survivable player?

I did not get the sense from sending tells back and forth to him, it was just a reading problem, like I said wasnt sure if it was a language or intelligence barrier....oh well

It's not really that. We invite friends and stuff like that. In the end, plain and simple, most of us in guild just got tired of other people in guild complaining about someone they dont know on the boat. A few days of that stupidity and the rule was made. We have nothing against anyone, or atleast the majority of us have nothing against anyone. Just tired of inner-guild drama over stupidity. Least thats my take on the subject.

There is more to it then just that Kage, much more.

Ask me about it and I'll explain why it was made, and to avoid more name calling and bashing, not here.

Anyone can come on my boat, even if I hate them! muahahaha....
Just don't like the 'snobbery' of not letting people from lesser guilds get invites to boat if they ask, yes when it gets to be every 5min thats out of hand, but in most cases anyone that asks gets an invite... And "work hard/sacrifice?" Who exactly is 'working' in DDO?
