Personally, hmmm.. pikers know why
I didn't realize there was a set pattern to follow..
my bad
yes i have had as many as 3 casters and have had no problem completing shroud as long as the ppl you bring know there role and have good dps all will be fine. and harry was a 1 rounder in part 4 with the 3 casters. so why ppl believe there should only be 1 caster in the shroud to that i say .. NONSENSE.
People run ahead in quests? Really? C'Mon Man!!!! Thats against the rules isn't it????
......feel the sarcasm.....let it burn
..they are just silly...
...sometimes I do shroud while drunk... I always wonder why the other 11 people are going the wrong way.....
,..kidding..again..

Well of course part 4 would go quick with multiple casters (if they aren't just standing around like some do for some odd reason), it's only Part 1 that becomes slower the more casters you add. hardly matters; only if you're one of the people, who (like fuzzy mentioned) must shave off as much portal beating time as possible.

Who cares? Shroud is the second easiest raid we have (TS)
With my guild, we can break off into 3 groups for portal beating. Even beat down a stray trash mob. If your party is geared properly there shouldn't be much trouble splitting up.
As a side note, while doing this technique we regularly complete speed shrouds in 15-18 minutes.
Now, I f I am pugging a Shroud, I prefer the melees group on portals and follow the standard routine.

To say that splitting up on portals doesn't save time tells me you either are playing with gimps or are too jeolous of someone.elses dps to realize that if two portals go down at the same time its quicker...by a lot...
Ya if I'm not thinking I run to an old pattern we all used to do, and then once I hit the portal I just beat it down so as not to waste dps
It's a game. GAME! Only a game. say it with me now - GAME. There. That's better.
Generally, not paying attention. Did it once just to check out how the Brigand's performed.

From playing on different servers, I can attest to at least three, but I think four different patterns. And yes for speed runs, the group usually splits into two groups. As for every day runs, usually a scouter whether it be a caster or rogue ususally scouts ahead and clears trash before the group to speed things up. And there are a few melees who can make fast work of a portal and will go ahead so by the time the group gets there it is dead or just about. Defintely saves time.

I often see the group split up after the hallway to take out the upstairs and downstairs portals out at the same time.
If no one else stays downstairs after the hallway, I'll sometimes stay downstairs by myself just to see how much of the HP I can take down before the rest of the group catches up. I was pleasantly surprised to see that my FvS can do about 1/10 of the portal's HP with a MinII Greatsword before the party catches up while my Fighter has erased up to 1/4 of the red bar before the group catches up.
I was very pleased to be able to do that test because it let me get a real understanding of the difference in DPS between the regular DPS that my FvS can do and the maximum burst that my Fighter can do.
That said, I have no illusion that my decision to take the "other" portal was helping the party any more than if I had stuck with the swarm of blue dots.
innovation? (even if a bit old)

I never split from the group. If there are 10 other people pounding on the same portal as me, then they're less likely to notice my total lack of DPS contribution. There have been times when I thought my autoattack was on, and it wasn't, so I just stood there... for every portal. Piking WIN.
I usually stick around if I'm looking for a shard, since I want to actually get the shard if someone has one for me.
I stick around if I have a shard to offer for /roll.
I also stick around if I'm on my Fighter since I can't self heal my way out of a wet paper bag (yet) and I don't want to just run around in circles in south central if there is no babysitter to take care of my boo-boos.
My Ranger, FvS and Wizard all make a dash straight for south central if they don't have a shard to offer someone.
