Question Why no extend after U9?

I've been wondering why people are going to be dropping extend with Update 9 comes. Can someone help me understand why this will be happening? Please, and ty ;D

All offensive spells can no longer be extended. So no extended Firewalls, Blade Barriers, Cloudkills, etc.

Extend will now just be for buffs.

because it will be worthless to alot of casting types FvS Evoker is a prime example the only spells it would effect post U9 is Holy Aura, Divine Power, Divine Favor as everything else has a long enough cast time anyway.

Because many spells will no have fixed and non-extendable durations, making it a feat with good but now far, far more limited applicability. By and large, damage spells will not be extendable. Buffs will be. Feat-starved builds and classes are shifting away from it in favor of other options. Sorcs, in particular, have a must-take feat for their PRE. If you didn't have that feat in your plan, Extend is one of the safest to drop.

I took extend to make damage dealing spells last longer. The fact that it worked on buffs was an added benefit. When U9 hits and extend no longer works to increase damage spells (imo) then it is no longer worth having. There are other, better feats that can take its place.

I won't drop Extend on my wizard since I have many feats and it will still be useful on short term buffs such as Haste and Displacement. But the feat-starving Sorcerers will probably want to drop for more useful feats.

I can't see keeping extend on my sorc just for haste, displacement and rage. My sorc and soul will drop it the day U9 comes. My wizard may keep it only because of the amount of feats they get. But i guess once i get used to not having it on other toons i will probably drop it on my wizard for another Spell focus.

You can pretty much count on 99.999% of Sorcs will drop Extend. I suspect about 50% of wizards will drop it, but they are not feat starved so can afford the luxury of Extend (which is what extend is after U9).

The only spells that my Wizard will want to extend are Haste and Displacement. Even Fire Shield doesn't need extend since it's easy enough to recast.

    the logic goes:

most buffs already last a long time (20 minutes)

the only buffs in which extend is useful are haste/rage/displace/fire shield

these can all be re cast, especially in boss battles, etc.

extend is therefore not really worth it

I for the time-being will be keeping extend on my bards (to many short duration buffs) and my wizard. I will however be dropping it on my feat starved sorc.

I think many in the game will follow a similar pattern of dropping it on sorc's, but keeping on wizards (tons of feats) and bards (to many short duration buffs).

I would also add buffing while lower level (<5).

So take Extend at creation, then feat swap it out later.

Thus making Extend a "training-wheels" kind of feat for some players.

What, you want want your deathward lifted from bosses and your offensive spells extended too? When they make an update that makes casters more potent they have to do something to gimp them or they will destroy the ballance. Now if they will make the metas so I can select which spell they work with While I am setting my spells that would be great. I mean I have no use extending my deathward as it last long enough but prayer, holy aura, and devine power I would love to extend however I would never take the feat because I know I would forget to turn if off and waiste sp casting other spells. the same works for Empower, Heighten... There are some spells I would always want these added to and some that they just arent needed. Especially quicken. I dont need this to make sure I get my heals casted since I have enough concentration to cast Blade barrier while laying on my back and heals cast fast enough, but it would be nice to shorten that 6 second cast time for bb and flamestrike, I think you get my point. Can you make this happen in U10?
