I need some help understanding someones build..

Okay I may be stupid be really can someone explain this ranger build to me:

30str 32dex 23con 13int 19wis 10cha

1 life elven tempest, has event epics and a greensteel scim and an event scim

How can this character survive echrono and epic devil assualt more than a few seconds even with a good caster.

I confronted him and he said I have been playing for 5 years I have run more epics than you will in the next year, but I cannot feasibly see how someone with a base 30 reflex save 42ac and 342hp can.

Please help, I really really cannot see this.

Why do you care what his build is? Are you paying his sub? If it works for him then let it be.

If you got a problem then tell him or squelch him, and then move on.

Flip side of that coin: an uber build piloted by an unskilled player is a gimp.

thats actually close to my ranger, but human with 25 con 32 str and 28 dex.

what im not sure about is that my guy has over 450 hp

Sounds a lot like my elven 20 AA 1 life build... Keep in mind, planner HP and so forth don't= actual stats. For example, my 20 elven ranger has epic cutlasses to deal with trash, DR breaking picks for held mobs, and has a litII bow that you wouldn't see most of the time on MyDDO that I use for burst DPS.

Also, that toon has 3 sets of madstone boots. Basically always madstoned, if not double madstoned. With madstone and buffs, the base HP is not near the questing HP.
(424 vs +/- 520).

I run epics with that toon often. Very survivable, contributes, and is fun.

Some toons aren't primary tanks. Some contribute in secondary roles, and if the player knows what they are doing, experienced parties see how they are helping out. That AA can drop an armorer in Echrono before it even gets down the stairs. That lets the other DPS focus on the other armorer and Bloodplate to get through that encounter more quickly and with less stress on the healers and less CC needed by the arcanes/bards.

Knowing HOW to play a class or build almost always trumps a potent build with a so-so player.

hovers around 500 hp, evasion and good reflex saves, 38dex and can boost to ~50 str weapons finesse with rapiers and lt picks and doesnt miss when he gets out his ranged gear.

And even so. Looking up someone on myddo does not show you what other gear they have. Maybe they logged out last with haggle gear on. Or their nice looking armor. Or were just screwing around.

No he definitely has 342hp, this is my problem in one aspect but also he is a tempest saying hes run more epics than ever, I just don't know how he could survive, the replies to this thread all have 500~ hp with similar stats.

I know my tempest has 500hp stats arent to dissimilar but he has
34str 32dex 24con 18int 16wis 18cha on a 32 point build.

So lets switch it around 342hp mellee tempest epic chrono epic devils assault can he survive and how, tbh just how even with the best CC there is damage flying around much more than that amount of HP can handle no matter how good you are so what am I missing here what?

True true. I just MyDDO'd my ranger "Pinkpoison" of Sarlona. I don't even know *** I was doing when I logged out, because I have nothing in my goggles slot and had switched to a mantle in my cloak slot, which I almost never wear.

She is public, though.

The OP says the ranger had a "base 342 HP". How is that bad at all? My guess is that someone ranted at the OP when he was on his ranger, about how rangers are squishy and bad, even though he had a higher kill count and far more epic experience than the person doing the ranting.

Edit: Okay, his next post makes it look like he is serious, but you gotta admit it woulda made more sense with the above interpretation
