Default All is not well with Melee changes

I've been testing the weapon effect changes, and clearly things are not WAI.

According to the release notes, disruption, smiting, and bansihing weapons will do 4d6 damage per hit, and that the insta-kill effect will either do 100 hp or kill depending on current target HP.

Instead my combat log showed no damage at all from these weapons, and targets <1000hp clearly were not being affected by the instakill effect. This was especially obvious with disruption.

Undead and constructs in VoN 5 normal. Smiting rapier & dagger, handwraps of disruption. Banishing rapier & dagger on the Shav. side of the Vale.

Works for me with Epic Wraps of Endless Light test after Disruption, see for yourself here. When DW popped over their heads you still see the 100 pts of damage hit them and the new bonus damage shows up as a 2nd bane dot above their heads. I was happy. I don't have any banishing wraps on Lam to test.

You should be seeing extra damage on every hit.. as well as I can read your combat log during the video you are not. You also should be causing a save roll on every hit for disruption, which I do not see above the skeleton.

Also, you picked a high HP, high saves opponent. I visited VoN 5 casual, and saw no instant deaths, no made saves, and no logged evidence that ti was procing.

    From the release notes:
NEW: Disruption, Banishing, and Smiting weapons now do 4d6 damage on a hit, and have a chance to kill the target outright on a confirmed vorpal hit (natural 20) if the target is below 1,000 hit points. If the target has more than 1,000 hit points, they will take 100 damage. Hit die caps and saving throws have been removed from these weapons.

Mind showing us where you see that in the release notes? The section I quoted above was the only mention of disruption in the release notes that I can find other than the section on Greater Disruption weapons and guards.

You need to look again, it is posted as simple damage in the log and a 2nd green dot over their heads... when I test something I spend a lot of time proofing it before posting it... may be you should take a longer look.

And, that you were in casual, killing stuff to fast may be the issue you had.

I was *not* on casual. I had plenty of time to see that the mobs were taking the disruption 100 hp effect when they should have died.

Why don't you post a screen shot of the section of your combat log that shows the on-hit damage from disruption on your hits with the wraps?

A general suggestion to posters in this thread:
    • PLEASE make sure you understand what the new system is on Lamannia before you post.
    • PLEASE ask yourself "DO I have any evidence that moorewr hasn't researched what he's posting about?" BEFORE you reply.

Keep the above points in mind and we will have a more constructive thread.

I pride myself on not getting into ego matches on these forums, it is a game after all but now you eat crow.

Pause the video at 1:30 and again at 1:33. Next time I say something is true, you can take it to the bank.

Yeah, i'm seeing the two bane dot damage above the skellies in that video, and two untyped damage in the appropriate range in his logs, one for the greater bane, and one for disruption. Kick it up to 720 and full screen it, it's readable. Also, according to the in-combat log, there isn't any mention of saves. it's just straight 4d6 every hit, and insta-kill on confirmed vorpal strike, or 100 untyped damage on confirmed vorpal if current HP>1000.

Also, there seems to be confusion about the disruption on vorpal. Quoting from the lama combat log in the video:

A weapon of disruption is the bane of all undead dealing additional 4d6 damage. Vorpal Effect: on a roll of a natural 20 on a confirmed hit destroying the undead outright. Extremely powerful undead may this [sic] resist this vorpal effect until sufficiently wounded, but will take 100 points of damage on a confirmed vorpal instead of being destroyed.

So vorpal is really better now, since instead of waiting for them to roll a 1 and fail their save, you do 4d6 while you wait to roll your own 20, which is kind of the same as waitin for them to roll a 1 No mention of chance to proc, so this happens on all vorpal strikes.

Here's the video timestamp with the above text: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pvw1R...etailpage#t=8s

Perhaps the wraps are coded properly and the other melee weapons are not? We need more testing!!

    Moorewr,

Here is the section from the release notes:

NEW: Disruption, Banishing, and Smiting weapons now do 4d6 damage on a hit, and have a chance to kill the target outright on a confirmed vorpal hit (natural 20) if the target is below 1,000 hit points. If the target has more than 1,000 hit points, they will take 100 damage. Hit die caps and saving throws have been removed from these weapons.
This section below means that the death effect (Smiting, Banishing or Disruption) will only proc on a natural 20 if the target has 1000hp or less:

and have a chance to kill the target outright on a confirmed vorpal hit (natural 20) if the target is below 1,000 hit points.
So what we should be seeing from this is:

    • 4d6 Damage per hit
    • Effect (Smiting, Disruption or Banishing) procs on a natural 20
    • On a natural 20 the target is destroyed if <1000HP
    • On a natural 20 the target takes 100 points of damage if >1000HP

    Does this clear it up?

Right. So what I am reporting here and in bug reports:
No on-hit 4d6 damage, at least not that could see in the combat log or on screen.
No on-20 death when the effect procs.. I am seeing 100hp damage pop up then, but the mob does not appear to save-or-die (or just die).

Huh, well from watching Marten's video, it does show the 4d6 per hit damage, and deathward popping up on a natural 20, so maybe it is like Shyver said and the wraps are working properly, but other weapons are not?

Edit: After watching this again, I do see the 14 and 17 points of untyped damage at 1:30 but it seems like it should be showing a LOT more than that if this is supposed to be on every hit!

Did you see it in the combat log? I paused and read the log best I could given the size. I don't have video cap set up but can grab some screen shots to analyze.

Wouldn't it be nice if for once it was working on handwraps first, instead of last?

A question in my mind is whether the line "on hit" for the 4d6 in the release notes is correct - you'd think they would have written "on crit" if that was what was intended, but I didn't read it to say on crit or on vorpal roll.

Check my last edit to the post above (Which says: Edit: After watching this again, I do see the 14 and 17 points of untyped damage at 1:30 but it seems like it should be showing a LOT more than that if this is supposed to be on every hit!).

Yes, I did see it in the combat log, change the video resolution to 720p and put it full screen, you should be able to see it then.

What is seems like it is doing is 4d6 damage on a crit, and the death effect on a natural 20.
