    Default DPS build help needed.

I have been thinking of making a good dps toon. I figure that twf is the way to go, but since I don't really like the look of khopeshes I figure I'll either go dwarven for daxes or possibly another weapon if any are advisable. I'm certainly open to going twf if that is just as good. I've had my interests perked by posts on monk builds with ranger, fighter, rogue, or paladin mixed in. Any ideas on a decent build? I'd just use my lvl 5 dwarf fighter to make a build, but he has a 8 wis and 13 dex so not really sure I can go for twf, monk, or paladin. If I'm wrong on that account let me know as well. Thanks.

Need a little more info: what build options do you have available? [i.e., 28 or 32 pt builds, any P2P classes, etc.] Any twink gear or tomes? Anything you want to be able to do besides DPS (i.e., tanking, spells, trap skills, etc.)? Etc.

That's my toon so far. I'd like to do tank besides dps. I decided to just go pure fighter. But given that I have 13 dex am I capable of going twf? Also was giving him 13 int a mistake, or is it workable?

A couple of thoughts from a long time player (but certainly NOT a power gamer)--
    1. Two weapon fighting (twf), on the whole, is better dps than two-handed fighting (thf).
    2. The two weapon fighting feat requires a 15 dex. This dex score must be achieved "naturally" (i.e. build points at creation or attribute increases every 4 levels or by using tomes).
    3. Improved and Greater two weapon fighting feats require a dex of 17. Again, that dex score must be achieved "naturally".
    4. A fighter with an Int score of 13, in general, does so to qualify for the Combat Expertise feat (up to -5 to hit but up to +5 on AC). Otherwise, there are probably better attributes to put those precious build points.

Finally, many players more expert than I will suggest "tanking" in DDO is a bit of misnomer. Tanking means you can do enough damage to the opponent to hold aggro and, thus, keeping the other party members safe. In general, Tanking does not mean having a real high AC and letting the mobs beat on you (although there are some builds which do dps AND have high armor class!
If you are looking for samples of dps builds, do an advanced search on the forums for "dps build" or something like that. There are many posts designed for folks who are just starting out. Good luck!

13 int is required for combat expertise... so is necessary if you want to tank.

The 13 dex is a lot more of an issue unless you'd like to add 12 ranger to your build.

Here is a build idea that has been around a while and may work ok for you...
    12 Ranger / 6 Fighter / 2 Monk

The ranger levels will give you the TWF, ITWF and GTWF feats without having to have the 15 and 17 dex required to normally take the feats.
Monk 2 will give you toughness and combat expertise feats.. here is what I would pick

Dwarven Axe, TWF with S&B capibilities for update 9
    Feats:
    1st - THF
    3rd - Toughness
6th - Shield Mastery (update 9 makes this better for tanking)
    9th - ITHF
    12th - GTHF
    15th - Imp Shield Mastery
    18th - Imp Shield Bash
    Fighter1 - WF: Slashing
    Fighter2 - Power attack
    Fighter4 - Dodge (tempest prereq)
Fighter6 - Spring attack (tempest prereq)
    Monk1 - Combat Expertise
    Monk2 - Mobility (tempest prereq)

Make sure to take the remaining classes in this manner:
    1-5 fighter
    6-7 Monk
    8 Fighter
    9-12 Ranger

With the changes they are making to shields in the comming update you are going to want to take a look and see if this build fills your needs. It'll give you all the TWF feats as well as the THF feats along with all the shield feats for the up comming update.

If anyone else has a better idea I'm like to see it as I have a similar build that I'm working on atm.

I like the idea of adding ranger and monk. However are shields really worth the feats? I may just wanna do straight dps and not worry about tanking. Also what is the purpose of the twf feats? Thanks again for the build. I will take it into consideration, although I have already leveled to lvl 6 fighter.

    http://ddowiki.com/page/Two_Weapon_Fighting

and read improved and greater twf too

in general ddowiki is a good resource of information for those that want to get a grasp on game mechanics.

edit: oh, and as a newbie its mostly too late to think of a char if its already lvl 6. but even as a newbie lvl 6 is a matter of hours. rerolling is never a bad idea.

the most used way of tanking is by hp and dps "hate tanking"
you can use intimidate as a back up if you like

as an new toon i would go this way
a dwarf is a good chois
-good con and extra thoughness feats
    - cha penalty doesn't hurt a fighter mutch
    - dwarven axes tend to be cheap
-dwarven spell resists can help on some builds
-dwarven tactics can grant up to +3 to stunning blow /trip

i would go with a full or near full str 16 dex (+1 tome should be easy enough to get later on)
    and the rest in con
    take kensai
(meby ranger 6 tempest could be an option becous you you will get the first 2 twfs for free without the need for dex you will how ever need 17 dex for gtwf but it will buy you time on the +1 dex tome
and it wil give you modred bow use with bow str for when you need range)

    feats
    twf x3
    stunning blow
    power attack
    weapon specialisation 2 feats
and the rest in thoughness or somthing els take atleast one though
oversized twf can help early on but can be switched out later.
(if you go ranger spring attack doge and mobility needs to be put in )
Virt II makes elujin smile !

I will probably reroll then. The 13 int was for combat expertise until I realized tanking wasn't a good idea, at least not as a primary role. Should I also make sure I have a decent wis to help with will saves? The few times I've died with this character is when I'm held. Also am I hearing correctly that otwf is a negligible feat in the endgame?

Needs more Toughness. Maybe drop OTWF & Quick Draw, move PA to a ftr feat, and take 2 more Toughness?

The TWF feats are granted by ranger as you don't have the dex to get them without the ranger class.

The THF and shield feats are based off the U9 update notes and how the dwarf axe behaves when shielded up.
A Dwarven axe provides glancing blows, like a great axe dose, when wielded with a shield. The shield feats are to allow you to be able have a percentage damage reduction after update 9 goes live.
