I've never noticed any lag(other than the lag others get as well) and I keep my epic cloak on all the time.

This topic comes up form time to time and I was told to unequip my cloak in a laggy shroud once. As far as I can tell there is a small group of players strongly believing that those cloacks cause lag, but the majority doesn't share this point of view. I think it may perhaps make lag a little bit worse, but the major problem is always an other one. Like the events.

Ppl with badly configured or crappy video cards/computers/connections think just about ANYTHING you do that shows anything visual... causes lag. Firewall, meteor, danceball, necro blast, ice storm, wail, ect ect ect ect

My personal fav was bein told haste causes lag... ^^

The leader kicked that guy outta the party. "complaining causes lag".

I'd take off my armor to prevent lag, but people don't like naked horcs, for some reason.

Never heard that Mabar cloaks cause lag before, but I DO take my Mabar cloak off when running any quest where you need to make sure you don't kill certain monsters by accident (HoX, Let Sleeping Dust Lie, etc.)

Possibly comes from someone thinking the guards cause extra calculations but then the same can be said of any guards including GS.
But lag from extra calculations was fixed in u5 isn't it? or isn't the case for guards? or what?

On older computers, the swarm of bats can cause a bit of graphical lag. It's enough to make a big difference in graphical quality in areas with really heavy activity where people get hit a lot, like Epic Demon Queen, VoD orthons, or parts of Amrath. On my old computer, the swarm of bats would drop my FPS by 2-3 while it was going on, and multiples only made it worse.

On better computers, it's not a problem.

Note that the nightmare guard can also cause the "broken fascinate" problem. This is because a mob will queue up an attack action, and even if a fascinate/stun/paralyze/trip/etc hits, it will continue its last queue'd action and do its attack. If that attack triggers a guard, it will break the fascinate that just hit. It's important to take off all guards when a bard is fascinating the bases in eVoN6.

    My experience as well.

In certain cases (Shroud), it's not necessary to remove cloaks - just have the laggers look away. If it's your own cloak this strategy is not as effective - no matter where you go, there you are.

The best source of lag is the fact the person is running multiple apps on an old PC with a poor ISP connection, and streaming 6 chat channels.

Also their is the underline issue of the DDO Cleint also.

I get spikes now and again but cloak or no cloak I have never seen a difference.

I bet those that see it dont have cloaks to begin with :P jealous much.

It can cause lag, the cloak, when the invis kicks off.

But that is dependent upon how you have your system really. If the game and the OS is not on the same drive, or your drive is fast enough, you won't see it.

I also believe that internal file fragmentation is also an additional source of this lag. Before an update I didn't have the issue, after an update I did. My solution (when I stop being so lazy) install another HD to seperate the game from the OS drive.

This same reason is why the madstone boots cause me lag now. The applying and removing of weapon proficiencies. Never had that issue on my previous PC that had separate OS and game drives.
