It is a fact that Lady Gaga is not a guitarist. I am not completely sure why this is important, but it is a fact nonetheless.

It seems to be unknown to some responding in this thread that Lady Gaga is a songwriter, had a hand in writing every song on every one of her albums, and in fact began her musical career as a songwriter (rather than a singer/performer).

Lady Gaga has been one of the most outspoken proponents of LBGT rights in recent memory. Is it any wonder that the bigotry directed against her occurs on the basis of her alleged transvestite/transgenderness?

Her styles of music (strong techno influences) are not for everyone. This is a fact, in the same way that there are people who do not appreciate Bruce Springsteen's various styles of music, however inconceivable that fact is to me.

For our final fact of the day, everything was not better in the old days. This is specifically true of music.

Art is subjective, and it's worth is dependent on each beholder. Therefore, Lady Gaga is as good, or bad as you think she is. Apparently she doesn't want for patrons today. Tomorrow will tell it's own tale.

Is it any wonder that the community answered in an aggressive manner when first being labeled as heathen scum?
Even if it were a joke, these sorts of responses were expected.... by me anyway.

For whatever reason some Videos of her remind me on 'Grace Jones' ... the sounds may be nice, but if you look behind the scene you see that most of her songs are written by 'RedOne', 'Rob Fusari' or 'Martin Kierszenbaum' and her main importance seem to be to show as much flesh as possible. Somehow this strategy seem to sell well

Don't get me wrong she has a good voice and I believe she is much smarter then she plays blond ... but if have to choose a current female performer I would probably choose Pink instead

Because I prefer my musicians to make music. I dislike 'Pop Singers' on general principle as they're of as much interest to me as Opera Singers. 'I have to rest my voice' is not nearly as valid an excuse for cancelling a gig (as some 'Singers' do) as 'I tore open my hand on my F-string last night and need stitches'.

I know perfectly well that Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta began as a song writer... I just don't care...

So? Bono picks a new cause every week and I STILL don't like U2.

Her styles of music (strong techno influences) are not for everyone. This is a fact, in the same way that there are people who do not appreciate Bruce Springsteen's various styles of music, however inconceivable that fact is to me.
So, after all that 'Here are the facts of why you shouldn't hate on Gaga' B.S. you fold because musical taste is subjective? Nice... classy.

For our final fact of the day, everything was not better in the old days. This is specifically true of music.
I don't believe anyone said that it was... most people just said 'Nope... don't care for her, and why are you cluttering the DDO forums with this?' which is just as much a fact as any of your statements.

Do not feed the trolls. Even if they wear lipstick.
Give a man a fish, and he demands two more tomorrow.
Teach a man to fish, and he'll leave to find somebody who'll just give him a fish.
Beat him unconscious with the fish, and it's comedy.

If her music is still relevant 10 years down the road like all the great ones music is, then you can come to me saying her music is the best.

Oh absolutely, she rules. Can actually sing without machines and play the piano, as evidenced by the live Paparazzi performance you can catch on youtube.

Talent is immaterial if it is not utilized well. Her songs blow syphilitic goats.

Seriously, that man has written anthems which have lived for decades and are most likely immortal, he has blended rock music with genres belonging to completely different musical planets (opera, gospel, even waltz!), with frequent tempo changes and non-linear structure... and she, the latest pop shooting star who has only written elementary commercial tunes, can be compared? I mean.... christ, performing is one thing, being a musician is another!
If you listen to all of her songs, you will find compositions that indeed blend different generes and have frequent tempo changes and non-linear structure. What we don't know yet is whether or not her music will stand the test of time as Mercury's has so far. I will leave that to history to judge. Much of Gaga's music REMINDS me of Mercury which isn't to say it will ultimately, over time, have the same longevity or broadening appeal.

Because, I mean if you want to talk about songs living for decades and are most likely immortal, you need look no further than Neil Diamond. :-O

    Agreed.

If she fell in the street, I'd step across her on my way to Pat Benatar's next concert.
(But at least I wouldn't kick her while she's down.)

well, I'm a drummer, so the first thing I notice in a song is the tempo and the rhytm, and I can't really say that I've been much impressed when I've heard her songs (euphemism), although I can understand when I'm hearing funk with techno infusions, or whatever. It's ok to say that she's got talent in crafting catchy pop tunes that people enjoy (although they're very simple songs, being succesful takes some skill anyway, otherise everyone would be making millions), in facts I respect her as a good artistic businesswoman. But her success depends more on her public image than on her music. She makes shows, not concerts. Would she be the same if she didn't play the part of the sexy blond dolly who likes to shock?
I also remember some years ago people saying Mika was the new Freddie Mercury. I'm surprised I even remember his name now.

Her styles of music (strong techno influences) are not for everyone.
Actually, this is the last thing you can say. they ARE for (almost) everyone, as she has quite a huge success. It's easy music, you can't fool yourself into thinking it takes some efforts to be understood.
Jazz isn't for everyone, opera isn't for everyone, prog isn't for everyone (and I'm not being elitist, I don't listen to the first two as I can't understand them), but if you see her filling stadiums, then you can't deny she's stuff for masses.

Actually, it's the FIRST thing you can say. And you can say it about every single genre of music that has ever existed or will ever exist.
    Nothing is for everyone.

Yeah. The Beatles are probably more universal than she is, and they aren't for everyone.

Bach is more enduring than I'd imagine Lady Gaga to be, and yet he's not for everyone.

Madonna produced better music in a lot of ways, and is very similar, and yet many people who enjoy Lady Gaga don't like Madonna.

Selling out stadium crowds =/= for everyone.

    Fixed that for ya.

I would rather be stomped to death by a duck than listen to Lady Ca Ca.

She's intriguing, too much Madonna for me though, and sorry but the best musician in the universe is Omar Rodriguez Lopez of The Mars Volta tho definitely not for everyone haha
