    This.

A returning thrower is a 'base weapon' in DDO, just as a khopesh is a 'base weapon'. The 'Returning' effect is intrinsically part of the weapon.

This is why if you looted a Holy Silver GEOB returning throwing dagger, you wouldn't be able to use it as a melee weapon.
    I don't have a zerging problem.

    I'm zerging. That's YOUR problem.

Returning shurikens are considered ammo though.

Strange. With the update on the 8th, i tried crafting with another char (specificly deconstruction.) Again, my +4 (i think silver this time) throwing daggers of returning could be put into the deconstructer, but no recipes showed up. However, when i placed my +5 throwing daggers (cant remember if it was special, but i think it was byshec), it would allow me to remove the +5.

The dwarf in question was currently unconscious and had a great axe of giant slaying in a locked gauntlet. He was not amused.

Player 1: I grab the dwarf and swing him at the salamander
Player 2: How much damage does a dwarf do?
DM: Depends on the weapon in his hand when he was turned to stone.

The dwarf in question had been hit with Flesh to Stone and had a Spear of Frost in hand which, for some reason that escapes me, had not changed. Only cold-based weapon in the group and a salamander attacked.

As to the OP, Returning in PnP terms would be a prefix property so I'd imagine that the Returning ability in DDO is hard-coded, which is why it can't be removed.
