Why not have it set up to where the number of materials/components you get from deconstruction scales with one's crafting level in a related field?
So rather than getting only a couple ingredients from deconstruction to count toward the thousands of mats you need, you would get 1d20 * whatever your crafting level is? That, to me, seems more reasonable than "paying to win", or buying the materials from the DDO store.
XP from crafting should also be more rewarding (unless it is, and I'm just seeing screen shots demonstrating diminishing returns as one gets to a higher level) - I honestly do not see myself buying/looting 30+ weapons for deconstruction just to be able to craft something reasonable.
As others have stated across several threads, there's a difference between genuine challenge, and masochistic grind. The latter of which I have absolutely no patience for (yes, I do it for some named loot, but named loot is potent, and the kind of loot I seek is useful up to and into epics. Random generated items however, are not worth the same amount of trouble in my opinion - especially with the way it's set up atm).
