    Default Stealth Mechanics! Broken?!

I have been trying to make stealth work on my rogue for weeks and haven't been able to sneak up on any mobs in pve or players in pvp. I have maxed out stats and situational bonuses for my level, stealthy, enhancements etc. I go around in cover and with invisbility on and I still get attacked!

I think turbine needs to take a look at hide/ms and invisibility again and make them based off mobs and players skill stats and make sure they're working the way they're suppose to.

Anyone else have issues with the stealth mechanics?

Stealth doesn't work in PVP. As far as I know there are no plans to change this.

As for other quests, it should work -- barring the occasional enemy with the DDO equivalent of tremor sense (spiders, scorpions, some others). Just make sure there aren't many lit eyes and that you're moderately far from an enemy and you won't have any problems. Invisibility can work, just keep in mind that some enemies can see through it and that if you aren't sneaking you're character will be making a lot of noise when they walk/run.

first, stealth will not work on PvP.

In PvE, stealth works well, if you know what you are doing.

First off, if you walk right in front of the line of sight of a mob, you will probably be spotted, depending on your distance to the mob.

Some mobs have exceptional hearing, especially those that would normally have tremorsense.

For instance, scorpions in Claw of Vulkoor Epic will sense you if you get too close to them, and they will attempt to move towards your location. If they get close enough, they'll have spotted you and will attack. Note that having a higher move silent means that you can get close to them before this behavior happens. My wizard with only 20 move silently cannot get within the radius of a bladebarrier to the scorpions without them becoming interested, while my wizard with 77 move silently can basically offer them a stick of gum without them being interested, until he bumps into them.

Also, I know this might sound silly, but you are actually activating the "sneak" ability when trying to stealth, right?

Turbine's dungeons are full, whether intentionally or unintentionally, of stealth defeating mechanisms. It's incredibly difficult to use stealth to your advantage in all but a few dungeons -- basically dungeons specifically designed to be stealthed.

Stealth defeating mechanicsm include, but are not limited to:

    Doors
    Levers
Steps too high to be walked over but too low to be mantled over
Mobs which remain stationary until an "unseen" character creeps near
    Mobs facing narrow hallways
    Spiders
    Oozes
    Bats
    Mandatory kill counts
    Mandatory kill mobs
Gaps too wide to be walked over
Ledges or crates which are too high to be mantled onto

    etc.

That being said, stealth is mostly going to help you out when you need to get somewhere without fighting. It's great for explorer areas and bypassing some fights when solo. It takes a little twitch skill and a lot of practice. There are a ton of tricks you can use to improve your ability to stealth, especially when used in combination with invisibility items.

tremor sense is broken or extremely glitchy as well. I've tested it in epic claw of vulkoor a few times, where I've tried to come within range of a scorpion without it detecting me, invised. standing perfectly still while invis, undetected, the guardians are guaranteed to see you every single time. I've found that 'zerging' is the most efficient method to not get caught, unless you have very good stealth skills (hide/move silent).
