Fireball Help

Just been if a fight with a wizard in 1 on 1 PVP (i wanted to give it a shot, just once). I totally got my arse kicked. A 7th level wizard doing on average 178 points of fire damage with a single fire ball... My question to you kind forumites is this... HOW? I MyDDO'ed him & he's not using any magical items to boost his fire damage. As i also have a fire throwing wizard of a comparable level and stat line, i know for a fact my average damage is not 178 points, even with Empowered Casting, Wizard Elemental Manipulation 3 & a good roll. So what am i doing wrong? Or what is he doing right that nets him an average of 178 with a single fireball?

Please help, i don't want to be substandard, stat-wise.

Base damage at level 7 is 31.5 on average, on a failed save.

31.5 * 2.5 (Max/Emp.) * (1 + 0.75 (Superior Inferno clicky) + 0.3 (tier III enhancement)) = 161.4 on average; 178 certainly possible on a decent roll.

Are you using a Superior Inferno clicky? That's a great way to boost damage cheaply, and a couple items should last your through most quests.

Just because you looked him up on MyDDO doesn't mean he doesn't have the gear. When are people going to learn that MyDDO in not a good place to look up someones gear? Myddo only updates when that person logs out and only with whatever gear they were wearing at the time of logging out.

Search the AH. You can get up to VI (I believe) on random loot. They're not typically especially expensive.

At higher level, you'll want the Amrath Belts that provide VIII.

dont worry too much about PvP its horribly inbalanced

also, keep a lookout for superior potency items too ;]

If it is more convenient you could go the other direction with frost lance. I am not a ddo damage whiz, but I have a freeze clicky, maximize and level 7 gives you two lances... I am pretty sure I surpass 178 easy.

Not worrying about it... Just made me look at my PC & think Holy Crit, i am doing something seriously wrong here. I'm used to playing (every other class in DDO but arcane blaster) & a PnP background, where wizards with Meta-Magic Feats suck... Not so in DDO it seems.

single target yes, but fireball is always nice for aoe damage, then again, firewall is better in almost any situation.

Yeah it is...except for searing heights. Everything is fire there. Once you get into the complex and you get mobed by wizards, mephits and elementals...Well one shotting the elementals made everything prettymuch a walk in the park.
