    Default Ring of Command question

I obtained a ring that gives its wearer the ability to cast the Command spell on foes. I have tried it on several occasions, but it does not seem to work, even on foes that I am sure do not have sufficiently high saves to repel it. Since I have always tried the spell when I was several paces away from the foe, I am now wondering if you have to be close to the foe in order for the spell to work. Is this the case? Are there other factors that could be preventing the spell from working?

According to the wiki you have to be close (25 ft.+5 ft. per 2 caster levels) and a will save negates it. I'm guessing it's a low CL spell on the ring so you'd have to be fairly close and the will save DC is going to be pretty low (10 + CL I think) even for creatures with low will saves.

spells cast from items tend to have really low DCs.

try going to korthos. some of the stuff there might fail on a semi-regular basis.
