Elf is solid. There is nice synergy with the elf/scimitar line. You end up doing decent DPS due to the large crit range and the elf racial enhancements mixed with the FvS class enhancements for scimitars.

Half Elves are also nice. You can mix in some nice dilletante options to augment the build nicely.

Humans are never a bad choice. Feats are at a premium, so an extra one is always welcome and the Human Versatility and flexible stat increases are also beneficial.

Out of curiosity has anyone tried putting a DoD on a WF FvS, let it proc, then use the wings? Do you fly at normal speed?

Yep, you fly the same distance/speed. Definitely makes the DoD slowed movement more tolerable on a 17+ FvS

Elves with longswords, free cure light, and invisibility / displacement (if you can fit them in) are also strong on a melee fvs.

You could even use Drow with puncturing / wounding rapiers.

Default You all fell for it

You folks got all riled up and no one seemed to notice... that the OP hasn't been back since the first post! I think you've all been suckered by a troll.
On Argo I play: Allandra Lvl 17 Rogue, and a few others.

And i have seen nothing to make favored souls even remotely superior to clerics in any way except a little extra hps/spell points. Maybe someone can correct me on this one...

Favored souls get a few enhancements/feats that will boost their melee ability with a specialized weapon up a little, but nothing that will really make any difference compared to a cleric. a few extra to hit/damage, not much there. They also get a couple free boosts like +10 elemental resist, again, not really a huge benefit when you can easily cast elemental protection spells or use airships.

Clerics get all the spells and don't have to pay to switch them out. Clerics can get that great healing blast/aura for very cheap enhancement costs. Clerics can turn, favored souls can't. Clerics have one stat for their spells (wisdom) where as favored souls are screwed and are broken down into 2 stats (wisdom for dc, charisma for sp's).

I don't see really any benefit for favored souls for their huge cost in favor needed(or having to buy) compared to a good cleric. Maybe someone can fill me in, because the first thing i plan to do with my fvs is tr him into a more useful cleric instead.

So, is playing a fvs worth not having free spells, turning, enhancement healing burst/aura, one stat needed (wisdom), etc...
Sorry... Either this is troll bait or you haven't really played a FvS...

Mind you those 10 points in resists stack with the spell, so you can get 40 instead of 30, you can go ahead and debate the usefulness of that, but just wanted to point that out.

I'll say the extra SP isn't what I love my FvS for. DR and Wings, those two combined make the class extremely strong and, beyond that, very good for soloing, if you are so inclined.

Also Charisma is usually a non-factor, for my FvS at least it was. I play an evoker and I don't really bother with Cha. 100 more SP won't make my day. Just put a few points into it at character creation so you can reach at least 19 should be enough, I put more than that, but still doesn't bother me.

    Are FvS worthless?
    No.

Is what my Cleric offers me worth more than what a FvS would?
    YES.

    Extra SP....
    I get bursts.

    Elemental Resists....
    Comes on a Shroud item.

    Melee Damage Lines....
I know it's not the same, but Divine Might is good enough for me.

    Wings.....
You got me here. Sucks to be slow.

Yes but the FvS resist feats stacks with shroud item resist items as well . 65 standing fire resist from feat + shroud item + red dragon docent is sweeeeeet!
