Light spells....who are u?

Ok i would assume that nimbus of light and searing light count as light based spells but what else does.

see ive never bothered with holy smiting enhancements cuz i never used the allignment spells. but for some reason my blade barrier never did very much damage when i first started out i was told that bb fell under the healing for its damage never made sense to me but i went with it.

so What does BB count as and what all spells count as light based and is taking smiting enhancements gonna be worth it.

sunburst is light based (don't think divines get it though). the new divine punishment spell is light based.

blade barrier counts as untyped. only the prestige enhancement improves it, nothing else. whoever told you the healing line boosts blade barrier was clueless. in what should not be at all a surprise to you, the healing line boosts the healing spells (and the inflict spells) only.

smiting enhancements will probably be worthwhile, and moreover you don't really have any choice in the matter iirc if you're taking the new FvS PrE. if you're not taking the PrE, i wouldn't take the smiting enhancements. or the spells.

Apparently BB is listed under force spells, but at any rate, the damage dealt is untyped. As mentioned by Jaid, none of the current enhancements will boost the damage. To get more damage out of your BB's, turn on Maximize/Empower and look for a (Superior) Potency (VI or higher) item or Efficacy clicky.

There aren't a lot of light based spells, which is a shame since it's the only enhancement line we get for offensive casting. There's a new spelll similar to melfs acid arrow coming out in the next update which should do considerable damage. I don't take any of the smiting enhancements on my clerics or melee favoured souls, but I take them all on my offensive caster, as she also has the capstone free searing light. It's not a spell I'd cast a lot if I were paying for it, but the freebie I spam constantly.
