Question Need Advise for 1st Greensteel (Update 9)

    Hi all,

With update 9 coming soon, I'm very concern with the changes on 'helpless' mobs that will affect my weapon choice. I have been saving up ingredients to craft my 1st greensteel weapon.

I am inclined to make a Lit II for general purpose as I can get a Metal PG for Harry. But now the question is Falchion, GreatAxe or GreatSword.

Pre-Update 9, I was quite clear that Lit II Greataxe would be my choice for general purpose dps and Epic Crit'ing. But since post-Update 9 will only render 'helpless' mobs non-autocrit and will only be open to more damage, I am seriously reviewing my choice.

I am now thinking that a Lit II Falchion on my Horc 20 Barb FB III will be more useful in clearing trash and epic runs. Any advise pls?

    Regards and Thanks

Falchion is gonna be the best now, even in "helpless epics"

That's exactly my sentiment. Just want to confirm this as I'm still young in this game ^^

Min 2 Great Axe is the best all-around THF Barbarian weapon.
    Eulogy- oh ninety eight

I thought it was ESOS? or anitique great axe with augment for boss dr, or ESOS with an augment?

Also i heard minII crafting is currently bugged op, if your planning on crafting minII I would check that out first.

not counting epics. you can run evon6 for months and months and months and months (like i have) and not have esos so i dont count it.

I feel your pain. I cant even get the weapon itself, reward lists are not my friend. And to make matters worse, on my thf's before epic I pulled several and handed them off to people who looked like they needed them and they no longer play! Gaaah!

I'm not sure if greataxe is really still the best choice though, even before epic weapons. I plan on testing this for myself soon with some falcions. The nice thing with barbs is they can use both and it wont be a problem so I'll at least not lose out by keeping my min2 axes for bosses.

One thing to consider op is that to make full use of your lit 2 falcion over a minII, you will have to sink a feat to make up for the loss of keen.

Do you have a classic (i.e. non-epic) Sword of Shadow?

If so, make a Mineral 2 for tricky DRs, and use the SoS for non-DR mobs. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CRAFT A MIN 2 AT PRESENT (there's a million and one threads about the process being bugged in a bad way). Just amass the mats for future use.

If you don't have a SoS, a Lit 2 falchion is the best all-around DPS weapon to craft. It isn't great on Pit Fiends (with Update 9 changes, even on Normal a Min 2 is better now), but it's good enough on Normal. For Hard or Elite Fiend encounters, look for a +3 or better Holy Silver weapon (+5 Metalline of Pure Good is a really weak substitute, but Holy Silver is better, more common and cheaper).

Edit: All of this assumes you have the feat Improved Critical: Slashing taken. If not, Min 2 all the way (but even then, I'd advise taking Imp Crit anyway).

It's weaker than it was. Its power came from being able to kill a ~6000hp elemental in one shot - now that elemental will have ~3000hp instead, and better saves to boot.

Try out an Epic Souleater sometime if you want - it's not hard to get the components for as usually when the shard drops, noone else will want it. It has a higher DC than Vacuum weapons IIRC.

Keep in mind the extra to hit and damage you can get through enhancements with the greataxe on a Barb....just saying.
Agorth Brutalum: L20 TWF Dwarf Barbarian, Shinkura: L14 WF Sorceror (3rd life), Wisspering Willow: : L19 Rogue - assassin, Arisiana: L9 Pally (2nd life). Metalika: L20 Tempest Ranger Gurddy: Level 18 TWF Dward Barbarian It's all about fun, isn't it?

He's a HOrc, not a dwarf. Bonuses are the same for all "great" weapons.

I personally like falchions because of the frequency of the criticals. I think the contest really comes down to falchions and greataxes though. Greatswords don't bring anything special to the table in my opinion.

Part of the benefit of a Min2GreatAxe is that you can unload your bags a bit. You no longer have to carry around so many weapons. Being a Great Axe, and thus superior base damage, it still makes an acceptible weapon for just about anything.

Your great axe will kick butt all the time, the falchion will only be a little better a chunk of the time. Deal with some undeads, elementals, or even shroud portals without a specific weapon and you will be glad that you're using that Axes superior base damage.

And when fighting no fort targets, you are only a little notch behind. And if you're fighting multiple no-fort targets, you probably break even due to the Axes superior Glancing Blows.

I made a tier2 Falchion and Great axe before deciding which one i would upgrade to tier 3. I have played with them both to at least some degree and the axe sure as heck "felt" a lot more powerful. You dont crit for 700 with a falchon, ever. And most of the time your crits are kinda sad. But all great axe crits will make you smile.
