More bursty but hardly any difference in dps terms , probably worse off .
    For an eSoS:
    Misses still miss.
    2 - 14 compare 1.5 * x to 3 * x, or an overall loss of 1.5 * 13 * x = 19.5 * x
    15 - 18 compare 1.5 * 3 * x to 3 * x, or an overall gain of 1.5 * 4 * x = 6 * x
    19 - 20 compare 1.5 * 6 * x to 6 * x, or an overall gain of 3 * 2 * x = 6 * x

    Net loss of 19.5 - 12 = 7.5 * x over the average 20 swings.

Glancing blows go from 19 * .75 * .6 * x = 8.55 * x to 1.5 * 8.55 * x, or a gain of 4.275 * x. The increase in Vicious damage cannot be directly compared in the same way, but in raw terms it will be an increase of .5 * 19 * 21 = 199.5 damage over 20 swings. If the barbarian's base damage is less than 199.5 / 3.225 = 61.8, they will do more damage in helpless than they did in autocrit, but a barbarian's base damage with an eSoS is almost certainly higher than 61.8.

    Now, for a falchion, you would only have lost .5 * 13 * x and gained 1 * 4 * x + 2.5 * 2 * x, or a net gain of 9 - 6.5 = 2.5 * x over 20 swings from main blows alone. Of course, you probably shouldn't have been using a falchion in auto-crit anyway, but it is an interesting result.

An uncapped Pally with random +10 seeker can crit for 700+ with exalted smite III, provided he has decent Str.

A properly TR'd Pally with full epic Str gear and ESoS (or comparable) will easily break 1000, currently.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone posted a crit close to 2k after the update.

    Default Anatomy of a critical?

    Still newish.

I've managed 250 ish smite crits on my Paladin when he was at cap. TWF Kopesh so maybe that counts as a combined 500?

    OK, so obviously gimped

Can people run through the race/class/feat/enhancement/item/weapon/buff selection that gives you a 1,000 point crit?

And Shade, for shame! 997 is not 1,000

Are you using exalted smite III/IV?

Technically 2WF is higher dps, so don't feel bad. If you like big numbers though, you have to go 2-handed, that gives you a 1.5 modifier on your Str bonus, and let's say your running a modest Str of 34, for a total of: 12*1.5 = +18 damage.

Two-handed also doubles your power-attack bonus, so if you have PA III enhancement that becomes: (5+3)*2 = +16 damage. Divine might can be a nice benefit too, depending on your Cha, say a modest +6. At lev 20, Smite does +67 iirc).

We're already at +107 damage. Assuming a random-gen +3 heavy pick with +10 seeker. Max damage on this bare-bones breakdown when you perform an exalted smite should be (107 + 6 + 3 + 10)*6 = 756 damage just on the weapon. The real trick is that exalted smite III and IV add +2 to your crit multiplier.

Keep in mind that is a very modest estimate, in a realistic party or raid scenario you'd take into account special bonuses like bard songs, past lives, sneak-attack item bonus, etc coupled with the myriad stacking Str buffs.

To top it off you can throw in an epic sword of shadows (base damage 5d6+10) and you can see how this number would quickly balloon.

Just yesterday I saw a screen someone posted of a Horc barbarian with 103 Str (I guess the theoretical max is 114?).

So yeah, don't be surprised when someone posts a 2k crit after the update.

Yeah it's easily possible. On my barb on live i've gotten 820 crits on the dragon. Imagine if there was a monk making it take 10% more damage, there's 900 right there. 900+450=1350 crit on a helpless mob.

It's probably theoretically possible to do 1000 base right now on live.

    At least in VoN1 epic..

    With
    Epic Oath of Drooam

Base damage.. Can reach about ~140 with esos, so 150 with that.
    150 x 7 = 1050
    Seeker 10 x 7 = 70
    = 1120
    x1.5
    1680
Add another +10% from the monk punch.. heh.
    = 1848..
mm not quite 2000. NEED MOAR STR!

well... sorcs are going to get all the damage for free from Prestige enhancements..but we have to grind to get all the gear and TR couple of times to even get that situational 1000+ crits

and yet sorcs are squishy, have a blue bar to manage and have to manage aggro. they too have to grind equipment for damage and dc increase, they too have to grind items for their blue bars. if you think a caster is overpowered, you can go play one.

Now with the change of helpless mobs taking +50% damage instead of autocrit would you
then be able to, lets say crit 700 and then +50% damage?

    700 + 350 = 1050.
    should be closer to 1200.

My average large crit with a bard in the group is anywhere from 810-860ish so 1290 peak or so.

My base is 110-125ish so I'm golden. Looking forward to seeing some ridiculous crits. It makes my epeen grow.

LOL I've never actually been the one to pick it up. I didn't realize it got epiced when you ran on epic.

That would be a fun little toy to play with now wouldn't it.

I've looked at the Oath in eVON1; it's just the normal version not the epic one.
    I don't have a zerging problem.

    I'm zerging. That's YOUR problem.

I was thinking the same - my 28 point drow (if there is a thing) pally twf rapier/short sword often smites for 450+ (and all the other damage that trails across the screen - too lazy to calc it all) and usally that will be both hands so 'fofiddy + fofiddy' and once in a while I will get a double strike smite proc... And i realize I am pretty gimp in terms of the true number crunching dps out there...I do use DM4 almost all the time and vs evil outsiders... very nice.

ok, so I get some of the basics but was wondering if someone can break gear and stuff required for these kind of numbers. For example I see in the videos 4 rages going on. Then I assume you using at least one madstone. So was wondering how do you get a barbs base damage above 100. Also, what would be the max for other dps builds like say a horc kensei fighter. Just trying to get behind how you do this. I have a wf barb and a horc fighter I am leveling now and would like to know how to set them up to pull off these kinds of numbers.

    Epic one does indeed exist.

On.. Epic difficulty ofcourse. I've used it before.. It is quite a badass weapon.

Tho when they created the epic one, they actually updraded the non epic version to x4 crit too.

Reminds me.. I'll have to go on live and try for a 900+ crit pre U9 in von1ep, just for fun.
