Default Voice Chat: Push to Mute

I would like a button that does the opposite of Push to Talk. This way I can keep hands free voice enabled and if I have to sneeze/cough/burp/etc. I can keep that noise from my fellow gamers.

    Thank You.

Hmm. Makes sense if it's used responsibly. Of course, there is the occasional person who wouldn't use it responsibly, but I'm not sure what to make of that. I mean, presumably most of them would be annoying without this feature.

Incidentally, even some of the low-end head sets come with a mute switch for the microphone. I think mine was $30-$40, and there on the headset's volume wheel thingy is a little switch. I never use it myself, since I always to push-to-talk, but it's there.

So... /signed as it's a decent idea, but /notsigned as I'm not personally enthusiastic about it.

What we need... If hands free voice is activated in the audio setup.

the F key should just toggle hands free. off/on.

and no push to talk button at all.

Hell we just need a toggle hands free voice button somewhere.

I'd like individual volume controls per party member...

Too many parties where 1 person is so quite you can barely hear them at full volume, just to have your eardrum rupture when loud drunk obnoxious guy starts screaming into the mic.

I do have a mute switch for my mic, but, say in the middle of a fight, it's hard to get to, and would involve removing my hand from the keyboard/mouse. If I had the time to do that, then I have the time now to just ctl-o/audio/disable hands free.

About the key toggle, I guess I wouldn't mind getting that feature, but I think a push to mute button is still preferable. A key toggle requires (or at least should) some type of visual indicator in the UI that tells you what state it's in. I think it'd be best to keep this mute ability simple for the users and the developers.

It would be simpler to just code the push to talk button to mute instead of talk if hands free is enabled. Agreed that we don't need to sneeze in our party members ears.

    Thumbs down /not signed

Only because I have ran with too many people that sound like prank callers. Seriously dudes get up and exercise if you have to huff and puff that hard just playing a computer game. Or what do you have open in that other window?

If they had that option then more would use it and at least for the first year we'd have alot of screaming followed by "sorry guys forgot to push the button" followed by Vader breathing.

Get a mic with a mute. Most good ones have it.

but let me let you in on a secret.. Your sneezing and coughing isnt the only thing that annoys us.

We dont particularly want to hear you breath.. Or eat Corn Chips.. Or listen to your mom yelling at you to clean your room either. PTT is MUCH more considerate to your party members.

I read the topic and totally thought you wanted to be able to mute your overly talkative teammates
