Cool Melee Tip, do not put hp bar at sides of screen.

Hp are a big concern and so is the action that's in the game while fighting!

My tip to all melee is put your hp bar near the center of the screen and no where near the sides. I like to put it near the right shoulder of my character.

I can always see it and do not have to glance at it. I know my hp at the same time that I am fighting because it is right there in center.

It is a tactic that I have been using for years. I die rarely because I never lose sight of my hp. The Hp bar is in my line of sight at all times.
Thoughts on this......please let me know what you think of this tactic.

99% of my deaths aren't because of not knowing my HP level.

    Turn on "player overhead health".

99% of my death are stupidity / lack of skill

FYI, you can make a health bar show above you character. It doesn't show actual hit points though.

If you have to look at your health bar and worry about it.... fire the healer.

EDIT: Roll a 1337 sided die to do a sarcasm check before posting and spitting fire and brimstone. Sorry to those who I didn't tell that to, in the first place

Spoken like a true noob. Why learn how to play when you have a wet-nurse to blame?

    On-topic:
Dying from rushing into an encounter with insufficient HP is a sign of lack of BYOH. Consult your local potion vendor immediately if symptoms do not subside.

If you run out of HP during an encounter, it is because of the tactical situation, not because of the HP level. Learn to gauge the threat level and react accordingly. You could be at 100% health and be in such a poor situation that you could be knocked down to nothing in a matter of seconds; or you could be at 10% health and absolutely safe.

If you have to look at your health bar and worry about it, get a better con and buy some pots. The healer is rarely responsible for your death.

    I always blame lag. :P

In all seriousness, I like the OP's suggestion. People SHOULD be aware of their HP and take care of it by whatever means necessary.

Well, shoot. It looks like Cannith is the only place left that I could make roll a divine caster named Lag.

But yeah, preparation and peripheral vision is more than enough, in most cases -- I don't like to clutter my central field of vision.

I don't like stuff in the middle of the screen, so off to the side for me

I normally try to keep my screen as clutter free as possible. Cant really imagine wanting to have the hp/sp bar right smack dab in my line of sight.

I put mine up the the top left corner of the screen, right under the main ui hotbar. Its easy to galnce at, and its not in the way.

This is actually a good suggestion. About a month ago I decided to re-arrange all my hot bars to see if I could find something more efficient and I tried out putting my hp bar in the center of the screen a little below my character's avatar. I wouldn't go back.

Rt lower levels when drinking pots keeps you alive, it's useful to be more aware of your hp level. once you get (maybe GH) but I would say The Vale, your HP bar moves "in the direction" to the healer's area of responsibility (primarily), you are still responsible for playing smart)

    **DISCLAIMER**

The above is a generalized statement.
I always keep at least 200-300 cure/repair pots on all my toons (even healers) just b/c I refuse to be helpless.
I always tell my healers unless you see me below half, don't bother healing me unless we're doing some big battle.

I keep healing items easily within use and keep the bar out of direct line of sight but easy to glance over. When something hits me that makes me want to check my health level to judge if I need to self heal I just take a quick glance over and do what the bar makes me think is best course of action, heal myself, wait a bit and see if healer heals me, or completely ignore the hit.

OMG. LMAO. Really? REALLY? BYOH? Be self sufficient? There is so much wrong with this statement.

hmmm heal the barb who thinks i'm a wet nurse.... or! blade barrier/destruct/cometfall/(if undead) mass heal it to death? EASY choice.

disclaimer: i heal you if i see you visibly trying not to die. if you are trying to hit a mob while at 10% hp in a non-raid/non-epic ..... die.
