One of the many reasons I don't use voice chat and one of the major drawbacks of this game is that voice chat is integrated into the client.

I let my son use my mic sometimes as he likes to talk to my "friends". People find it funny as he says "Kill the kobald", "Give me your loots" or "I want cookie". You all are just too mean!

it's ok when they use their inside voices, but many don't have one of those lol (some adults are just as guilty though)

I never really cared if a little kid used voice chat...so long as they weren't rambling on about everything and nothing..nothing like having a play-by-play narration of what they were doing in quest with you.

now is it that you dont like kids talking on voice chat? if so squelch em.

if its that you dont want kids hearing what your saying then party with friends/guildies. or just adopt the attitude that if the parents cant be bothered to monitor their kids activity then it ait your responsability to mind what you say.

personly ive squelched a fair number of folks (including but not imited to kids) just for annoying voice chat, so i do sympathise with u here.

When I chaperone my son and his friends those who play on the home network shout to each other, use skype in parallel to those at remote locations and type in game. Seems to work for all concerned.

I have nothing agaist kids with mics at all.
I have a problem with anyone who does one (or more) of these:

    1) Talks on a mic with fan nearby.
    2) Swallows the mic (or puts it 10 feet away).
    3) Insist on talking in the middle of many people.
    4) Feels the need to speak loudly as they possible can.
    5) Feels the need to speak, constantly about everything even when they have been asked to refrain.

More people should use push to talk. I really don't care if it's some kids screaming, or a constant cough, or music in the background. I often have a hard time hearing people over voice chat anyway. Having a lot of unrelated background-noise is an additional distraction, and if I turn my sound lower I cannot understand the people acctually saying something relevant.

This is why when we let our kids play they aren't allowed to group with anyone but us and others in our guild... and we even tell them that squelching our kids is a good idea!

I've only grouped with a few kids that were annoying with voicechat. I've ended up in groups with adults that talk insesantly about everything and nothing much more often.

Usually in those situations I turn off my sound and type something like "speakers just broke, can't hear anything, please type anything important" into the chat pannel.

im fine if they just talk to communicate with party members

but unfortunately, kids on voice chat tend to babble incessantly, in a high pitched, loud voice :[.

For me personally, I don't care if you're 8 years old or 80 years old. There are various aspects of listening to someone of voice chat that can be very annoying no matter what your age is. Some kids can be very nice and fun to quest with, and some adult can be very annoying to have to listen to. I think I know where you're getting at, but for me it's not a kid thing, but rather just a person thing.

There's also the option of turning off voice chat, it's easier than what you're doing right now (hating on the forums, yeah, hating. Kids are just as much of a player as you are)

Every parent needs to make their own decisions but for me chat + DDO = no kids. I have the voice chat turned off for all my kids. That said, I also don't allow them to group with anyone other than me and the other kids with the exception of one of my 7 year olds who's a very good player...him I'll let group with others if and only if I'm in the group with him. None of my kids are old enough where I'd contemplate allowing voice chat and once they get there I'll be monitoring it anyways to make sure they don't act like idiots (or worse yet have some adult act like an idiot toward them).
