    Default Coyle

I just can't finish the quest Hold for Reinforcements. IMO, this quest is bad for the game. Even bluffing Coyle to stand down, casting invisibility on him and filling the room with firewalls, eventually he gets hit and die. Last time I was 3 minutes to finish and for some reason an Iron Golem noticed Coyle on the ground, invisible, and killed him with one hit.

I know this quest was even worst some time ago, but this does not change the fact that it is bad now.

Please, can you devs change this quest now in Update 9? At least increasing Coyle's hp or decreasing the time.

    Default Ahh Coyle

This one is just plain painful. You want a group for this. 2 healers make it overly easy - one tasked just to heal that sob. You can stoneskin, blur, displace, invis him, but Coyle is suicidal. There's no real stopping someone who wants to die.

TBH though, rarely will have 2 healers in a group - better have 4 self-sufficient DPS, an arcane with dmg mitigation buffs and healer focused on just coyle to get through this nonsense. Enjoy.

If you don't have a caster with you who can CC the place, please make sure you have someone who can intimidate. That is an unbelievably indespensible skill to have in there. Since besides the spiders and rust monsters, everything else can be dragged away from Coyle by the one intimidating.

Otherwise, the tactics already discussed by the others here are all valuable options when you want to attempt it again.

They key is to let Coyle die a few times. That lets him know he needs you.

Hey, thanks for the tips guys.

But even applying those strategies, what happen in this quest is just too random, and is incredible unfun seeing Coyle die in the last minutes.

I still believe this quest deserve to change in the next Update.

    Cool lol Coyle

Brings a tear to my eye !

I once failed 17 times in a row with a pug group on normal in the old days when he could not be buffed / healed.
They could not understand the need to block him in and I was near tears until finally my Guild stepped in and helped me complete.

I still lie awake at night in cold sweat recalling this !

Trust me it is considerably easier now ! - I have soloed it several times now as I am sure many have. Just think about what resistances he will need - fire / acid / cold
what spells are used against him - (need deathward) and take some healing wands for the muppet.

Best advice here is to go in with a group - the whole quest chain is still a very good one imho and well worth the struggle to get to south and the end rewards.

    Good luck and have fun.

I think the best tactic I saw was at level, solid fog, cloudkill, firewalls, bluffing him, blur/displace him, and have someone heal on him. Also energy resist and prot helped a ton too. Also having his npc buddies there helped. If you can bring an earth ele pet, that helps as well. I think the last time I did that quest at level, it was 2 arcanes, 1 healer, the rest melee. Usually the best group formation is 1 pure arcane, 1 combo arcane/rogue, 1 healer, 1 pally, 1 bard, 1 tankish (ranger/fighter/barb).

I usually succeed at this one.

I bring a whole party. I usually heal Coyle myself. Helps if one of your friends helps too.

If I can get agro in anyway, I do so.

Full group, pets, Fogs and other persistant CC.

Buff Coyle, knock him out, Invis him. (but most monsters in their can see Invis in one way or another.

Fight away from him... (Mephits have an AOE atack and Renders cleave)

Agro, agro, agro! The party is expendible, Cloyle is not! Get Agro!
    Anyway you possible can!

Target him, and heal him....even if he doesn't need it.

(I did this on Hard when the cap was 10 and he could not be healed or knocked out! I did it on elite the first day he could be healed, but he still could not be knocked out. Think the cap was still 10...maybe 12)

Resists are critical to avoid AOE dmg to him as well as good ring of agro around him to make sure that you get the attention of everything before they get to close. Even then, you might want to run casual to be safe.

The devs should just ditch this silly quest. I still remember coming up with the brilliant strategy of luring coyle to a corner and knocking him out where he was out of the way. The **** bugger dropped unconscious and then slid on the floor right back to the middle of the room while in that state. Unfortunately my petition to have the devs banned for exploiting was not considered.

The old strategy when you couldn't heal Coyle was to block him in with 2 players on one of the walls, and then let everyone else beat down the waves of mobs, this should still work with a group

Eh, Coyle does some DPS if you let him. You just need to have him (basically) raid buffed and have a healer assigned to keeping him alive (which is really easy if you buffed him against everything in there). Generally he's fine if everyone else is doing a good job at killing things. This quest is WAY easier than it used to be and some of us did it on elite back then. Now THAT was painful.

Then again, these days I usually wait on that quest until I have implosion or wail; just because I can.

Personally I let him run around.

I've always figured having him knocked out on the ground, while not a normal agro threat/target, any hits he takes would be an auto crit. Aka, sleeping mob.
