just a question, is there any point in having the ranged aspect? or is that just for fun? without any feats helping it it looks like it'd be pretty weaksauce

edit: or rather with only those feats. STR is too low for bow at end, I wouldnt say viable from what Ive read. Also missing tons of things that make it useful (favoured enemy, specialization, manyshot, etc?)

in response to the response, he has many shot and he has arcane archer which is potent burst DPS. Will be fun while kiting **** through BBs. should be an effective solo/shortman strategy.

Question for original poster. Was going to post a similar build to refrence while leveling tonight. Would you want a link to compare the different level spreads? My build outline is for h-elf 17 fvs 2 monk and 1 wizard.

ahh, you're right about the manyshot, I missed that, those things are so darn hard to read

I was under the impression that AA wasnt really all that great just by itself, and manyshot is what, 20 secs/2mins? that's okay for the start of the fight I guess...

It's wisdom that determines the DC of the FVS spells.
Charisma only gives a very few bonus spell points. You only need a total of cha 19 (including items and enhancements) to cast level 9 spells. Starting 8 + 2 tome + 3 enh + 6 item = 19. If you want to be on the safe side when disjuncted, start with cha 10 and have Eagles Splendor available.
For the suggested builds, it will be enough with total 18 in charisma (FVS lvl 17).

I'd drop wisdom and beef up some of your physical stats. You'll still be able to cast BB doing a sufficient amount of damage without investing so heavily in wisdom or having a very high DC. This might cause you to change your spell selection somewhat unless youre really interested in offensive spell's other than BB. My concern with this build would probably be actually hitting things with manyshot running? I guess that depends on what difficulty you plan on running your game, gear, buffs etc. You haven't maxed Dex and your BAB will be a bit on the low side. I'm just afraid you're going to see more misses than one would like. If you miss too much then you can't consider this build burst DPS at all. I've honestly always felt that the blade kiter build is in theory a good idea but it's really more for flavor and not as practical. To me flying ahead of everyone else to get aggro and casting BB gets the same effect as shooting arrows and kiting.

My 16fvs/2mo/2rgr recently TR'd. I looked very seriously at 17fvs/2rgr/1ftr half-elf. Then I started running some dps numbers for my melee, and on a whim ran them for the archer fvs too. It was really disappointing. It stopped being worth losing level 20 for me.

Fighter offers a BAB and haste boost 1; monk I guess is offering you handwraps.

That said, if you really like the flavor of bow- and blade-kiting, I prefer the half-elf. My version started 17/15/15/10/8/11, levels in strength, and with modest gear had the to-hit for most quests. Levels in dex would work as well if you'd rather 2.5 to hit than 2.5 damage. I don't see increasing the save on blade barrier mattering unless you've got it exceptionally high.

Force burst imbue isn't required for slayer arrows, so you can drop that if you're feeling tight on AP.

My only other thought would be to drop quicken [edit: or improved crit; it's not as much damage as it would be for a straight dps build] for empower or empower heal. I only recommend this because mass cures aren't very good for epics or elite raids, whereas with full ranks and a +15 item you won't lose concentration on normal or hard raids or quests.

With DP, DF, GH, +7 dex item, +3 excl dex, +2-4 dex tome, +x to-hit item and ship buffs, he ought to reach around 40+ to hit. Should be quite ok for at least regular content.

Stick to 2 monk, 1 wizard. It'll score you an extra feat. Go half-elf with ranger dilettante. GET MANYSHOT. Keep empower + maximise (for the upcoming PrE) ... is there enough feats? I don't know, let's see ...

    7 base + 2 monk + 1 wizard = 10 feats
    free strength shot from half-elf
free mental toughness qualification with wizard

    weapon focus: ranged
    rapid shot
    manyshot
    point blank shot
    maximise
    empower
    quicken
    extend
    zen archery

Anything I miss? Toughness, Improved Critical: Ranged and Power Attack are options for the last feat I guess. If you wanted to be pure archer you could dump some of the metamagics and pick up precise shot/improved precise shot but with the new PrE I wouldn't advise this.

Don't do archery if you can't get manyshot.

Correct me if I missed it, but you forewent the heighten feat. Even with a maxxed wis score, you risk anywhere from 1-8 DC loss by not using heighten.

Suggestion: I would either drop a feat for heighten (like imp crit) for a build more offensive casting oriented, or dump wis for more con/dex/str for a more archer-focused build.

    Cool

    Concentration?

i really wonder if its really a must have since ill permanently use quicken later in game and very cheap too, so ...

ok, on lower lvls but i thinks one can handle this till then and use the saved skills int .. uhm.. dance or alike

i tried on cleri and fvs several times while progressing and had no real problems w/o concentrate

    any opinions welcome

2 uses for concentration end game.

Most importantly, you need to make concentration checks when scroll healing, quicken won't help you there and as a splashed caster expect to need to do a bit of scroll healing.

Also, quicken makes spells less efficient. Having quicken on 24/7 is part of the learning process until you work out when and how to turn it off. Don't plan to always use quicken.

less efficient how far? i mean the spells effect decreases if quickened? for i never heard or realized so yet and since i rarely used scrolls amidsd a fight i thought this could be handy^^

Quickened spells cost more SP than non-quickened spells thus making them less hp per SP efficient.

First: Drop Wisdom and up Charisma to 14.

Use the points which you drop Wisdom to up your Con.

I know I'm two weeks late, but: of the feats listed, only ZA is a monk bonus feat; Toughness for the 2nd monk (and final) feat makes most sense, IMHO. Also, now that Extend will be for buffs only post-U9, I might drop it for either Emp Heal, Heighten, or Imp Crit Ranged.

This is what I went with to fit in both the AoV PrE and AA (MT is required as you cant take two different sp enhancements)

    Half-Elf FvS18/Monk2 (Monk taken at 1 & ???)

    Stats

    Str 14
    Dex 14
    Con 12
    Int 8
    Wis 16 (Lvl-ups here)
    Cha 14

    Feats

    1 Mental Toughness
    2 Precise Shot
    3 Bow Strength
    4 Point Blank Shot
    5 WF: Ranged
    6 Maximize
    7 IC:Ranged (may swap for a meta-magic when/if MinII is made)
    M1 Toughness
    M2 Zen Archery
    HE Paladin Dilly

    Skills

    1 Concentration

This build allows for effective ranged against single targets and somewhat effective offensive casting for large groups...as well as decent healing/buffing also your AC, Saves, etc. + Evasion make you all that much more survivable.

Alternatively you could make a 17FvS/1Ranger/2Monk and drop Bow Strength (since ranger 1 auto-grants it)/IC:ranged in favor of taking Rapid Shot+Manyshot but would lose tier 3 AoV and 9th level spell access

Sucks with the extra SP thingy removing the 1 wizard splash option. My solution here would be to hold off building this until the other FvS PrE comes out in U11 (or maybe U10).

I would but I didn't build it for me it was a request by a friend to be built.
