Spontaneous minimising

So I've got DDO installed on my laptop running DDO through wine and now I've copy pasted my install onto my friends computer which is running Vista.

For both of us occasionally DDO will just spontaneously minimise. I'm not sure if it is the same issue or separate issues. Has anyone encountered this? Anyone have any ideas how to fix it for either or both of us?

I'm not sure if it technically minimises as the program still seems to be selected by the screen disappears and I have to alt tab to another program and then alt tab back to DDO.

I've had that happen to me in the past with other games.

Usually it's something else wanting your attention like MSN showing a message, hardware monitor showing a warning, or windows telling it needs a restart after automaticly patching.

Yup, its called "stealing focus". Some programs will bring themselves to the top of the stack of windows you have open, to do this it minimises DDO.

I have this happen quite often with Logitech's latest Setpoint software. Even though I forbid it from stealing focus in the settings, it doesn't seem to care and will minimise the screen sometimes for no reason.

AVG used to do this. It would steal focus away without ever taking control of the focus.

I'm not sure that another program is actually stealing focus. For me particularly I usually run DDO with nothing running in the background and when the spontaneous minimise happens I can actually just wait 5 seconds plus and the game will come back. If I want to manually get back to the game I have to click on the desktop to unselect the game (as the game is still selected even though the screen has disappeared) and then alt tab back to the game.

My friend is having a similar experience. I've been having him completely disable his firewall etc before playing and it seems to pop out and pop back in a very similar way to what I experience.
