People are farming the event like it's going out of fashion because they actually don't know if it's going out of fashion. The second it is confirmed the event will come back, people will stop heavily farming it.

Have to remember that alot of players don't have much time for DDO, with work, family, friends etc I can just squeeze in 15 hours a week and don't want to spend all that time grinding for items, so the longer the event the better.
Each event should be at least 2 weeks in my opinion to cater for more casual gamers.
Or how about a per-person timer? Each toon gets x number of hours to spend in the cove, play for 3 days straight, or take all year to get 'er done, up to you. Then noone fells rushed to farm right this minute, and everyone gets the same opportunity to craft the item or 2 of their choice.

My complaint is that the developers didn't think the rewards piece thru very well or look for ways that players would exploit the event. I have way more silver and gold doubloons than I can use and not nearly enough copper. There is no exchange of gold or silver for copper. There is nothing useful to buy with the excess of silver and gold. And the failure to adequately downgrade plat value to prevent the mass sell off of gear shows the most complete breakdown in intelligent thinking that I've witnessed in a long time.
It ranks right below the nerf which let those who found the plat farm make out like oil barons while the johnny come lately among us got nothing.
I don't know that I like the idea of video games and leader boards becoming a part of DDO. In fact, I know that I don't like it.
But the quest is sufficiently different from what we've had before that it is fun. It isn't the quest that is the problem -- it is the rewards. I'd play more Crystal Cove like quests just because it is a change from the routine hack and slash. It is actually a fun little puzzle that changes enough that I still don't recognize the patterns.
And, if that is what we have to look forward to then I think it might be alright.
I said this in another post, but I think we just need to ignore the excess dubloons/gems/shards. It's like this:
The price of RandomItemA was set at 1000 Gold, 500 Silv, 50 GreenDragonShards
-because it should take approximately X# of CC runs, plus Yhours of Roost grinding.
-this amount of play will also produce Z# of Bronze dubloons, and n amount of gems,
ignore these, throw away.
The price of RandomItemB was set at 2000Gold, 100Silv, 500 GDS's, 30GemA, and 50GemB.
-because it should take approx ... blah blah blah
-this amount of play will also produce excess resources, ignore and discard.
Why does everyone think that we need to make use of all the extra resources? Would it have made everyone happier if the EXACT number of hours spent was calculated to produce the EXACT number of resources required and then an EXACT price set on the items in order to have NO left overs at all? I doubt that would work, or be worth the time it would take to calculate. Or would it have been better to simply have a chest at the end? And then hope you got the item you wanted, and if not, you'd have to sell it for pittance, or not at all because it's BTC?
I for one love this mechanic, where you can get exactly the rewards YOU want out of the quest.
Got leftovers? Chuck 'em!

The fact that they get the least back per gem turn in and still end up with 20k plus in a bad speaks of miss allocation if you had to choose between multiple things to get with a range of dub items people get would be more diverse as it stands craft items, maybe some jolly roger bombs, get your water or air ellies and spit on the golds.
I just finished getting all the stuff I wanted, and a bunch of stuff i wont be able to use until I TR and level back up to 20 and maybe even TR again...lol....then I bought some silly stuff that I will NEVER use...and I still threw out over 18,000 gold dubs and 23 green shards. BUT, I had a great time doing it and had the chance to meet some really great people that I would never have met outside of the event. If you run on Thelanis and ran a Cove or 12 with Curahoo...that is Me and I would run with any of ya again in a heartbeat. Even subpar runs in the cove were enjoyable and usually a result of not enough purple in the rocks rather than poor play. Thelanis Rocks!!!
(nothing against any other server, I have alts on all of them, I just ran Curahoo and only Curahoo through the Cove this week to get the full experience, I hope to get the chance to run a couple others for key items before it is gone again.)
During the first go around with the Cove event, I took my 3rd life TR fighter from just making 19 to 20 over the course of playing for just a few hours 3 days in a row. Of course they had an xp bonus running at the time too. I also got enough stuff to make several epic items. XP and gems? Much better then the mabar event for sure.
