Post New Area Scrolls New Values

There has been talk of DDO having scrolls be named after the areas they are dropped from, Ex: Desert Scroll, Fens Scroll, Chronoscope Scroll, etc...

So based on the scroll that it has dropped from can be used to make any epic item as long as you have the basic item, shard, and seal. As well as this your scrolls that are already named that you have pulled will not change to the area scroll and become WORTHLESS, unless of course someone is looking for that certain item (but still don't expect them to trade 22 flawless reds for your Marilith scroll, you'll be lucky if they pay 1 large scale).

So as a server we should decide a server wide ballpark prices for the area scrolls. Would like to see the opinions of a fair amount of players so we can decide the basic prices for the scrolls.

My Thoughts on pricing the scrolls as below are this...
    --------------------------------------------------------
Chronoscope: 3 flawless red scales for one
Desert: 1 flawless red scale and 1 large scale for one
Red Fens: 1 flawless red scale for one
Sentinels of Stormreach: 1 large scale for one
The Vault of Night: 2 flawless red scales for one
Phiarlan Carnival: 1 large scale and 1 large stone for one
    --------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for putting your opinions here, if you think I am horribly wrong then go for your own rankings, if you think I am right I would quote it and type /signed

This is a seriously silly idea for 2 reasons (at least)...

    1. The Dev's have said that the area scroll will NOT effect current content, only new content with a possible change in the future.

    2. The scrolls will cost whatever the market says they should cost. When they first go on the market the price will be insane, but it will drop.

    [EDIT]
Your post was creative, I enjoyed reading it. I am neutral on the topic b/c I've never thought of things like this. I really don't care one way or another so i'm typing this mundane comment instead.

I'm glad people are thinking outside the box. regardless of it being unecessary or necessary, good or bad input. thinking is generally a good thing

Now most things regarding epic scrolls are only rumors that have been tossed around between people as I was farming Crystal Cove (for example, this goes along with no more auto-critting held mobs). I have reason to believe that epic scrolls will be usable with any potentially epic item, but with NinjaNeed's post, I just now learned that this only will be applying to new content. To me, it would make sense to apply this to all current content as well, but as he said, it's unknown when/if this will happen.

People here care about reputation? That's news to me. And I'm pretty sure as long as your over 1600 you can still give negs; but I digress, I only use it to get humorous posts out of people that post something that doesn't contribute to a thread. The entertainment supplied for the long weekend is just a bonus (because today is Monday).

Regarding 1, do you have a link to that? I do not recall seeing anything about that, only that the change would not retroactively change current named scrolls to generic scrolls. It seems very unlikely this change, if implemented, would not also apply to future scroll drops for existing packs, especially since Demon Sands was used as an example.

    Regarding 2, I completely agree.

If indeed all areas become generic scrolls I can't see me paying more than a devil scale for ANY scroll, except maybe chronoscope, as you can farm yourself a generic scroll in under an hour in any other area in relative safety.

The secret is "don't be a lazy bum". Unfortunately those instructions were too complex for me, especially since in U9 I won't be able to just hold and woo-woo the devils what with my 16 strength fully geared and buffed :P

The fundamental flaw with your idea is that not all epic items are equally desirable/powerful.

To set a price on a generalized scroll is to assume that all epic items in a given area are equally desirable/powerful.

When this change occurs, it will really be the buyer determining what the price of a scroll is, based upon what item they plan to make out of that scroll.

If you have a desert scroll up for sale, and I want to make a marilith chain out of it, you can bet I'd be willing to pay a whole lot more for it. But if someone wants to use that same scroll to make say...a weathered targe...you wouldn't honestly expect the same kind of offer as if they were planning on making a marilith chain now would you? And you can't assume that all scrolls you sell will be used to make marilith chains/eSoS/RoSS etc etc

There is no evidence that generic area scrolls will be unbound. For all we know, they could be bound to account, thereby allowing specific scrolls to retain some value.

    Also, let's not forget...

By saying the scroll change "will not be retroactive", I take that to mean your existing scrolls will remain specific and any newly found scrolls may be generic area scrolls (in current and new content). Unfortunately, I could not find the actual dev post, so this will have to do.
