Default Go roll a healer. Seriously

So, last night my FvS was running a couple of Shroud flagging quests for a guildmate who needed them, and a few other puggers, and during the amount of time it took us to run Ritual Sacrifice and Let Sleeping Dust lie I got FIVE (count 'em - FIVE!) /tells from people looking for a healer for their group.

Now, I don't really mind this too much. Often I will actually run with a group who does that, because I know they've probably been sitting around a while, and that's no fun for anyone.

But I was in a party! Don't people know how to tell when someone is in a party? Obviously they have enough knowledge of the social panel to be able to find me, then surely they should be able to also sort it by "in party" and then only /tell those healers who are currently *not* in a party.

Is that too much to ask?

And while I'm on this topic - there's been a general increase in the amount of /tells I've been getting lately wanting a healer.

If you're reading this, and you've found yourself looking for the social panel for available healers so you can fill up your PUG and have been unsuccessful because no healers were online, or none of them wanted to run The Pit for the 17th time (It really is a cleric's worst nightmare) - log off, and go roll up a healer.

You'll almost never have to wait for another PUG group to fill, and you'll almost never be denied a spot!

Because of the low quality of many pugs, many people mark their healers as anonymous and only run with guildies. My cleric is part of a static group so I don't have to deal with trying to keep noobs alive. I would say there are plenty of healers, but many of them are so jaded about carrying people through quests in their backpacks that they simply don't bother anymore.

Strangely enough, I find when I'm on my cleric and don't have anything to do nobody bothers to /tell me begging for heals. When I'm in a group in the middle of a quest, however, I get people asking me to join them in some other quest.

On my favored soul the other night, while in a mostly guild group with an lfm for VON3, I got a /tell from a group looking for a healer to farm VON3...

Op, this happened to me last night on Sarlona. I was as nice as I could be and said "Sorry, but I am in a group with my guildies", but we had a good laugh about it because they also had an LFM up begging for a healer and said they would pay 1000pp.

If they need JUST a healer, they should just get a hireling and be done with it. It does require some time to get used to the controls, but once thats outta the way, a hireling healer is pretty much equal to a PUG healer.

Yeah, last night I got a tell from a PUG leader asking for heals on a quest. I had seen the PUG listed that he was referring to and amusingly I was above the listed lvl range. I had no interest in running that quest at the time, so I politely sent a tell declining him. Ten minutes later I get the same tell from him, did he not get the "no" the first time?

    I never reply anymore.

I used to, but found the person sending the tell is usually too busy spamming divine at my level to wait for a response back anyway.

Yeah, it is the /tells I get when I am already grouped that get me. I generally just "/r grouped" and move on.

I will say this though... pug healing is the easiest way to raise your community profile. I've gotten more "if you ever want to switch guilds, just let me know" type comments from healing a pug than I have for all my other character types combined. Folk remember good healers.

Glad to see I'm not the only one.

I got more /tells today (though thankfully not while grouped).

Seriously, more people should play healers on this server.

My capped Cleric gets tells constantly. Almost all of them are for runs that often turn into serious resource drains, while providing almost nothing useful for a cleric. ToD, SoS, VoD, all three can seriously harm your pot supply in weaker groups or groups without good coordination. Abbot is another I get asked for a lot, but I don't run it much because I don't agree with the shady ways of completing and the weapon destroying bug.

It really doesn't bother me much, the first time. If I receive more than a couple of tells from the people in the group asking for me to join I do get annoyed.

I will be polite at first, then a little brash. On the 3rd request i shift into jerk mode. I say "Sure, lets do this!'

Then I accept the request and join. Now the fun part (for me at least) I will go park myself in Searing Heights or the closest explorer area, and say AFK a minute.

Then I go take a shower, mow the lawn or paint a portrait.

I suggest everyone go rolls a FVs or Cleric , it will make you a better player with a lot better understanding of the game

I think it would be courteous to at least do a /who before /tell so that they don't /tell if you're obviously in a quest...otherwise I can stay /anon during a quest and be visible when I maybe want an invite.

I also got a few tells last night while I was actively in eADQ, eVON, ToD... I certainly understand asking for people to fill your group, but at least look to see if the people you're recruiting are in quest before sending /tells. It's not like I was standing around the market, I was in a group and in a quest. I'm pretty polite to the ones that ask if I am standing around, but usually don't bother to answer the ones while I'm in quest. *shrug* I'll just use the anonymous feature if it gets bad, but a little courtesy would be nice.

I'm not sure how they find you if they didn't use either /who or the friends list. They just aren't looking at the little icon.

I've often gotten repeated tells from the same person as well, I think they just forgot who they have sent a tell shortly before, probably because they are just spamming everyone on the list.

Yea, I drank 5 pots in a VoD raid last night. It was funny, because the LFM was for 18-20, and I'm 17. They had 11 spots filled.

I sent a request to join, and the PL sends back a /tell "healer or melee FvS"?

Now, understand that I'm a 34-pt build TR FvS with all kinds of ridiculously overpowered scimitars (dual vorpals, dual smiters, dual disruptors, dual holy bursts, etc, etc.), the full TWF line including OTWF and between the rogue and I, we pretty much were the sole DPS for Running with the Devils with a group that had some of the worst tanks I'd ever seen. BUT - I've also got maxed out healing lines, empowered healing, and a superior Ardor clicky if I need it.

So, I repled "both", and explained my point. He invited me, and good thing - because it took all the healing us three healers had to pull through that raid.

-- and the PL was a cleric!! But that's a rant for another day. :/

If I do, does that make me a "Holy Roller"?

Playing both cleric and favored soul to 20 does give great perspective and strongly influences how I build and play my fighter, trap wizard and barbarian. They stick close to clerics' auras whenever reasonable and never ask favored souls for top offs while I've got more than 25% HP left. I build characters with as much HP as I can reasonably squeeze in because they're the cheapest and easiest to keep up.

Though I almost always PUG, I don't often respond to those tells if I'm already in a quest and I don't think there are any hard feelings about that. I've been getting a lot of those for SoS lately which is funny because it's one of the few things you're NOT likely to be flagged for already. Do other people stockpile those essenses and not use them right away?
