Default New way to do HoX?

Yesterday I joined a HoX pug and the group leader said he did things different and its a much easier way. Basically when you zone in you hang on the south wall and head east and kill the mind flayer grab the stone let the next mind flayer come to you and kill him. Then you go to the other side and repeat. If you stay close to the walls and don't go to far north none of the other mobs spawn. This all went fantastic though it took a little bit longer (probably 6-7 minutes) Then after getting 4 stones the leader went to go get aggro from Xyzzy and pull the dog south. This is where things didn't go so well. No one could get Aggro. But they tried to get the ranger to shoot Xyzzy and the monks were all using throwing stars and complaining they could not get past the DR. I have only run HoX as an arcane or divine caster but I thought the whole point of the raid was you could not hurt Xyzzy until after the charmed dogs got her health down. So what am I missing here? We ended up still doing the "Old way" as they called it and completed. I was a healer and because of how things played out we only had 1/2 little dogs hitting Xyzzy for most of this so I ended up having to use a mana pot to keep the dogs up. First time I have ever needed to do this and this run took 20 minutes where normally 5-6 seems the usual.
So has anyone else done this new way with better results and how can you pull Xyzzy from the middle without spawning all the mobs for future reference. It seems like this way would be a bit easier for new people but the old way is faster and if you have experienced players seems like the way to go.

Using pots in a hound. thats a fail. even if it completed.

    Should never take that long.

The 'old way' might be harder for new people to get. But it works 100% if everyone does their job. And nobody should be drinking pots.

Now are you talking the old way or the Post FTP old way. Cuz I've been in quite a few HOX runs where the people leading the RAID sware that running around the outside is the old way and that they have done it a bazzilion times.

This post will not last long. They were trying to gimp it and apparently couldnt even figure that part out. Do it the "old" way as intended, more fun Imo.

While I agree that the proposed method of running HoX seems less efficient I've got to take issue with this maxim in itself

This would indicate that we have new people who don't know the joys of the hound.

I've Tried it the New way. did it on elite. and did it without difficulty. certainly the easiest run ive done. but also the longest.

but alas, i have no clue on how the ranger pulled the mother, i believe i was taking a dump at the time.

Easier but longer. i suppose useful if you want the favor, or higher chance for tomes on elite without having a elite worthy party. but for just plain completions. the 3min runs are so much better.

    Cool

I have a hard enough time getting a full pug group to the raid in one piece. I will stick to the "old fashion way" it works every time.

    Default Never completed unless....

It was the "hunting party method" (which seems to work best on hard and elite) or "guard the center" (which is harder on hard & elite because of DA).
Thelanis - Lightbearer - Cleric 20, Sareeshi - Ranger 20 (TR from AA to AA, yea, that's right), Roggiegal - 16/2/2 Rogue, Pally, Fighter, Pyranas - TR Sorceres 19, Pallyguy - Pally 19, Littlebigman - 20/2 (dwarf) Ranger/Fighter (tempest), Locksmythe - 11 Rogue and others...

If you use an intim you can usually charm the dogs as soon as you get one stone, then the next, so on. This takes a good tank who will reposition as needed to get the charmed to attack the big hound and not the little ones (fairly easy).

Putting the hound in the middle of the VERY long corridor (east?) is the best way by far, it only leaves two entrances to defend while having a healer by each group (11 split into two groups.) Healers are close enough to tank also.

This two entrance method means instant death to any render, reaver, beholder, etc...fast raises, quick healing, and any dog dropping will usually go after inner group and brought to tank.

but, that is to calm and relaxing for most...better to just run around like crazed maniacs dragging aggro all over the place while mobs from 4 different directions attack the solo tank and casters in the middle....

helps to not make it boring I guess...(what did you think that one long hallway was for? exercise?)
