    Default TWF Build help

Please let me preface this with a bit of a disclaimer. I play DDO with my teenage son and built several fighters given the advice here on the forums. He is bent on melee and absolutely bent on TWF. Given that, I need suggestions for a decent build, given those constraints. 32 point build and veteran status will be used.

Off the top of my head, i decided this

    Horc Ranger18/Fighter2

    STR 20
    DEX 12
    CON 14
    INT 8
    WIS 12
    CHA 6

Feats are pretty open, Imp Crit slashing, WF slashing, maybe khopesh . need some general direction of what enhancements help this, other feats, what to stay away from. I DON'T need people saying he shouldn't do this. I already tried. I would rather make him happy with how he wants to play.

Anyway, i look forward to ideas, thanks.

How are you going to get your DEX to 17 for GTWF? You have to have GTWF pretty much. Probably need to drop STR to 18 and put those points into DEX and CON.

Rangers have TWF, ITWF and GTWF as class feats and they don't even need to have the stat prerequisite to use them. So the build is valid and is used (aka strength ranger).

Note that you need dex 13 to qualify for dodge. So be prepared to chomp on a dex tome as your stat points are better off rounding off strength.

You can free some stat points off wisdom and top up to con or dex as most rangers usually start with 8 base anyway. Considering rangers have only 4 levels of spells, 8+ 6 (item) gives u the wisdom necessary for spells. Earlier levels, use Owl Wisdom wand as a precursor for your spells. Ranger spells are mostly buffs anyway so u really need it 1) When you enter a dungeon, 2) after you shrine.

If your going Tempest route, you should have about 2 feats free hanging. While weapon focus seems interesting, I doubt you really need it at medium ~ higher levels with your strength and favored enemies enhancements. Double toughness or skill focus: UMD or such might be more beneficial.

    Essential Enhancements to take:
Tempest III (I assume ur going there)
Ranger Dex II (Prereq for Tempest II)
    Favored Enemy Attack II
    Favored Enemy Damage II
    Fighter Haste I
    Fighter Strength I
    Fighter Toughness I
    HOrc Power Attack III
    HOrc Str II
    Racial Toughess II

A related question: In reading, it seems that the Tempest III Enhancement is generally regarded as underwhelming. Why is this so?

If that is the case, would it be better to go Ranger12/Fighter8, with the Ranger levels taken early on to get the TWF chain completed? I've read that Tempest II is desirable, but not III.

I assume all stat increases would go to STR. Is this the case?

    Talking My 2cp....

Id reduce your wis from 12 to 8 or 10, as a 8 wis + a +6 wis item allows you to cast all ranger spells, and 12 wis vs 8 wis is only = to about 50 sp at lvl 20, and either str or dex would be a better use of those build points, unless you plan on taking a monk lvl or 2.

    other wise it looks good.

PS. you need 8 lvls of ranger to get bark skin, and by then you should have a +3 or +4 wis item, these are cheap on the ah.

    good luck and have fun

WIS 12 is so you can take +2 WIS tome and be able to cast lvl 4 spells w/out a +WIS item, thus freeing an item slot; alternatively, dump-stat WIS and put the extra pts into CON for more HPs. Final feat is open to debate; I went with Maximize (+rgr Devotion enhs) for tossing off emergency Cures. Likewise enhs could be tweaked; the only must-haves are the DPS boosts & Tempest stuff, IMHO.

Something like rgr 12 / ftr 8 (or ftr 7 / barb 1) would have higher DPS & HPs, but lose skill pts & lvl 4 spells; not a bad tradeoff, esp. if melee is your son's primary focus.

Tempest used to be better. Tempest III is definitely still desirable. 12/8 is going to give you pretty much the same DPS, but give you much less versatility in favored enemies, which would annoy me to no end. Ymmv.

    Yes.
