    Default Inscribing New Spells...question

    New Wizard, level 4:

I noticed I can inscribe level 3 spell scrolls even though I have only been able to select level 2 spells so far. I assume the level 3 spells I inscribe now will be there for me in future levels and aren't a waste of time for me to try to inscribe now?

The game seems to act as if I have successfully inscribed them even though I can't see them. Also, how high can I inscribe, up to my current character level?

    yes, they will be there.

you can inscribe any scroll you can use, iirc; as a general rule, that means you can scribe scrolls of spells that are one level higher than you can cast (assuming pure wizard). the only exception to this that i know of is banishment, which i believe is priced as a level 6 spell, and can be scribed at the same time you scribe level 6 spells (ie level 9).

Default Inscribing scrolls above your level

My experience so far in inscribing arcane spells above your level is that you can inscribe any spell all the way up to caster level 9 if you have the spell inscription material to do so, and if you have the scroll. You just can't see it until you reach the appropriate level. DDO Wiki says you can't do that (I'm referring to yellow-marked scrolls - ones above your pay grade) - but I have been so far. Might be a bug they intend to fix someday.

This is useful to know if you run multiple characters and pick up scrolls you might otherwise toss either due to lack of room, or not appropriate for that toon.

For newbies looking for the spell inscription materials up to level 8, you can find them all in the Feather Fall Apothecary in House of Jorasco. Also in Jorasco in the House of Wizardry you can buy scrolls for levels 4-5. The auction house also has scrolls you can purchase. The Portable Hole has the spell inscription materials, including level 9.

In my particular case, I made a pure wizard who's still not past character level 5 (I'm running more interesting toons to me right now), but have been inscribing new scrolls as I get them from chests looted by higher-level toons I have. The game knows when you've inscribed a scroll already, even when it's a high-level one you can't see yet.

I was hoping there might be a text command I could use to find out everything I already know. If anyone knows one, I'd appreciate the info.

I like to buy and inscribe all of the scrolls that the vendors sell before I level up - that way, I only choose spells from the list that cannot be purchased at the vendor.

After ~5 years of playing wizards, you'd think I'd know which ones can't be bought

I just keep a list next to the "feats-I-plan-to-take-at-X-level" list.

Same here. I rolled up a wiz - level 4 off the vet boat and have never played him (plan to eventually, but have a couple others I'm playing right now). I bought inscription materials with a higher level character and pass all arcane scrolls to the wizard. You can inscibe any spell you'll eventually get. But there's no way I know of to know what spells you've inscribed until you reach the level where you can cast them.
