After the two best songwriters in the group, were no longer in the group, the band went downhill in a hurry.
Cliff (deceased) and Dave (kicked out).
Master of Puppets is a thing of beauty, both from a musical standpoint and an engineering standpoint. The Black Album just doesnt compare in either. I can hear the drum replacement all cobbled together when I listen to this, and tell that a machine is doing the work. I can slap it on a turntable and put a techno record on the other side and once the beats are matched I can walk away and thebeats wont go off to being unmatched again. The drumming on previous albums was solid and riveting. Why was this even needed?
Add a healthy dose of Lars whining about Napster around every corner and blaming the internet for lost sales when it was actually the bands shirking off old loyal fans while trying to grab at the more popular alternative fan base. - hey, other bands during that time didnt seem to have a hard time with sales. So lets ditch all the old thrash fans, most of whom would identify with Slayer and Sepultura, and make a grab at the Janes Addiction and Primus fans. Didnt work - most of those niche rock fans recognize genuine music -vs- change for profit. Even now, James talks about how the record labels had a heavy hand in deciding what their sound would be at that time. Micro management of musical sound doesnt work in the underground genres, heh.
Yes, the Black Album belongs on that list, sarcastic or not, LOL.
I would also add:
MTV moving to reality TV and talk shows.

Well you can not have the other series without the original.
I love TNG...NOT in the first couple of seasons...seasons 3 or 4 I think is when it really took off for me.
Same with DS9...DS9 in the lase few seasons was dark, gritty, the cap was cool and I liked the various inter-personal relations.
If VGR was filmed with the captain AND her coffe AND A PALL MALL...then I would have gotten that series....
YES ENTERPRISE was...gone too soon!

2 1/2 Men is a ****poor show, with or without Charlie Sheen, but I guess it was a bad move.
Working crafted handwraps, that would be nice. Anytime soon.
I would say The Ropers was just as bad as Joanie and Chachi.

"George Lucas has acknowledged the key influence of The Hidden Fortress on Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. This influence remains particularly evident in the technique of telling the story from the points of view of the film's lowliest characters, C-3PO and R2-D2. Kurosawa's use of frame wipes (sometimes cleverly hidden by motion within the frame) as a transition device also influenced Star Wars."
