    Default Crushing Despair

    Two spells you should be using to help your enchantment spells land are

    Crushing Despair, and Mindfog

    Mindfog works well with discoballs, and should always be cast as a pair, it reduces will saves by 10.

    Crushing Despair works well just before you cast a mass hold and has a temporary effect (no save) to reduce will save to enchantment spells by 4.

    Also you might want to look into Yugo Pots. Spellsinger Songs will also raise your DCs by 1, +2 int ship buff, +7 robe/docent from echrono, and either a dreamspitter or one of those trinkets that summons beholders

    All of these put together should get your DCs to 45, and with crushing despair it will be an effective 49.
    That is a very impressive DC for a first life human caster.

    Use Hypnotism first...

    Set up the meta-magic so that Heighten is NOT applied, and it's only a 10 SP spell.

    Cast it first, followed immediately by Mass Hold Monster. The bad guys will save against the unheightened Hypnotism, but it gives a -3 to will saves EVEN if they save.

    So it basically ups your Mass Hold DC by 3... which is significant, if you're sitting at 39.

    Like the poster above said, Crushing Despair also works, but it's a little more expensive.

    Yay necro thread, but anyone know if the will save penalty from Despair stacks with the one from Hypno?

    Currently Im playing PM human Wizzy. He is TR'ed but for the purpose of this thread build can be very easy changed. It dont use any hard to find stuff like litany.. (exception is Inner staff which is quite hard to acquire.)

    So lets start!

    INT
    18 - starting stat
    5 - lv up
    3 - tome
    4 - ench
    7 - item (Epic Diabolist's Robe, Epic Illusionist's Garb, Epic Staff of Inner Sight)
    2 - exc. (Tod ring, Epic Treasure Hunter's Spyglass, Epic Utility Vest)
    1 - exc. (Tod ring, Epic Treasure Hunter's Spyglass)
    2 - capston
    2 - guild
    2 - yugo
    2 - lich form
    = 48 Int!!!

    Ench DC
    10 - base
    9 - spell lv. (For lower lv. spell heighten)
    19 - Int mod (48 INT)
    1 - Wiz PL (If ur 1st life change it to Spell focus Enchantment)
    2 - Inner staff (If u dont have it, u can change for Dreamspitter, Staff of the Petitioner, Epic Elder's Cap, Epic Spectacles of Spirit Sight, Shard of Xoriat, Xachosian Eardweller, Scepter of Mad Trickery)
    1 - Sp. Focus (For u it will be g. spell focus)
    = 42 Ench DC, which is pretty good for everything.

    Necro DC
    10 - base
    9 - lv
    19 - Int mod
    2 - Spell focus Necro & G. Spell focus Necro
    1 - Lich form
    2 - Inner staff (Or any other item with Greater Necromancy Focus)
    = 43 Necro DC

    Thats all u can have 1st life. Ofc there is few ways to make it higher.. like +4 tome, Litany, Store pots.

    I'm playing a palemaster at the moment and I've really appreciated drow as a race (even though I only chose it because I didn't have access to 32 point builds).

    I'm sitting at 44 buffed int ATM which gives me a 41 necro DC and 38 enchant DC (eardweller and epic robe of shadow as spell focus items). This is enough for most of anything that I've wanted to run (eDA, eFens etc. Spell pen is a bigger issue in house D epics for instance). 25 base int +2 tome +3 wizard +2 capstone +6 item +2 lich +2 yugo +2 ship buff = 44.

    When I get hold of +3 exceptional and LotD I can add +2 to each of those (if I can find another greater enchantment item, maybe craft it onto a large guild augment accessory).

    I'm not really sure that +7 int item is practical for (most) PMs as the epic mabar robe is just that powerful and the only other option is the epic staff of inner sight (which takes up 2 important slots). If I get the pieces for one and a +4 int tome I'll consider a TR but until then I'm quite happy with drow for the +1 DC.

    I have struggled with this myself and am 50/50. I keep my Epic Diabolist Robe for now because ALL IN it puts me on an even INT number (ship, yugo, etc all being +2 won't change any of that).

    If I ate a +3 INT tome I might slide back to the +6 robe but I doubt it. Epic Conj focus and 2 epic slots are hard to pass up.

    PS While we are on the subject, what does everyone consider an acceptable spell pen?

    Discoball and Mass Hold Monster should have identical DCs, the difference being in how often the enemy gets to save against the affect. Your DC is 10 + 17 int + 9 spell level + 2 spell focus item + 2 GSF = 40? +1 Ship Buff will put you up to 41, +7 item and +2 ship buff will put you to 42, Yugo pot will put you to 43, PL: Wizard will put you to 44, PL: Bard will put you to 45. Happy?

    For everything I've heard 40 and above should be fine. Perhaps it is your spell penetration that is struggling?

    Human vs Drow ... to me this is a no brainer

    same dc's at end game, less using 15 mins cookies or house d pots,
    Human gets more con, hence more hp, and an extra feat.

    until +5 tomes come out, cant see any reason to go Drow
