How is the combat system over there? My older brother is apparently playing it too, and he's had good things to say.

    Smile Combat

Well, there are different buttons for different attacks. To me, it's a lot better than Age of Conan was with the combo moves. I have been playing rogues that require attack A to build up combo points for attack B, so there is some button mashing, but I have been using a Razer Naga (17 button mouse) for awhile, and I'm actually enjoying combat.

A fun part of RIFT is, well, the rifts. At any given moment, a rift will open anywhere and spawn monsters. If these monsters arent killed and the rift closed, then a foothold forms from which an invasion is launched. It feels to me like the fun (or more) of a live DDO event, and it can turn epic quickly. Also, I have felt 0 lag since playing, even during large scale invasions.

There are the usual gather item, talk to people quests associated with other popular MMOs, so it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea. However, the Mrs and I are having a blast, and I expect the bulk of our gaming time will be spent on RIFT for the foreseeable future.

    Cheers,

    E.

PS: Turbine, I love DDO and will continue to pay my subscription until you pull the plug on the server. However, it is nice to have an alternative for when the burnout or frustration sets in.

    Default Doh!

Bleh! This got moved to the Off-topic chat from Thelanis forums. I should have stuck with my original post that was more relevant to Thelanis.

    Sigh...

Different game talk is probably automatically gonna get an Off-Topic shove.

It's okay tho. It's really not such a bad place to hang out in - once ya get used to it.

So, the action is basically a WoW clone?

It does seem very appealing to break from DDO especially for the PVP aspect; appreciate the feedback Eriik, +1!

I find it annoying when people chime in "it copied WOW" comments - WOW is still one of the newer MMOs, not every single idea/game mechanic was spawned out of WOW....

Although the Raiding aspect doesn't seem so appealing from what I've heard, I'll definitely be trying it out. multiclassing + PVP = win.

EDIT: now that we are off-topic anyways, mind re-posting your original comment? wouldn't mind reading it especially if it relates to Thelanis.

my finger hurt.. no click and hit like ddo (even though we have button punching here as well, over there it's for ever single attack)

hotbars are semi-customizable but nowhere near as user friendly as over here..

It's not an option for everyone, but there are some mice on the market that make life better for this kind of thing.

    I'm using the Razer Naga:

Another choice might be the Warmouse:

I don't know if there are others, but I sure love my Naga.

Little off-topic, but I was surprised how small the Naga was when I saw it in the store, and those lower buttons on the keypad require some uncomfortable thumb-bending to be able to hit, and this is coming from someone with relatively small hands. Just a little "buyer beware" perspective.

    Default Naga

Hmm, I guess you'd say that my hands are neither overly large nor overly small. I wear a large glove size, but that's pretty meaningless in a world with xxxxxS and xxxxxxL. My fingers are maybe just so slightly on the longer side, and my hands are trim, not meaty or fleshy.

The Naga does take some getting used to, and Razer quotes about a 20 hour period to get familiar. Best Buy carries the Naga, so I'd take a look before buying. Hope this helps.

Ya my post in Sarlona forums asking if any Sarlonaites were playing Rift got moved too... Seems discussion of competition is a no no! And I'm loving the soul system.

    Smile First update

RIFT took its servers down for it's first scheduled major update today (RIFT was released last week, I believe). They made a bunch of changes/fixes and added a little new content. The servers didn't come back up on time though. The projected down time was 40 minutes for the update. It seems that they actually took about 45 minutes

I'm loving the game. It looks like I'm going to set my RIFT subscription to the 6 month plan - the longest they have. I'll still be logging into DDO every few days to see how things are going, but I'm mostly RIFTing for now.

    Cheers,

    E.

    Smile Last night...

On another note, I found myself surrounded by rifts and footholds last night during a large invasion. No way out and no immediate help. Outnumbered and overmatched, I had to bide my time until reinforcements arrived. Awesome stuff...

    E.

PS: Oh, I could have used my hourly recall back to my porticulum bind point, but where's the fun in that .
