Do the Archmage spell-like abilities take up a spell slot? I know that they do not use material components.

No - they are like any other activated ability - you have to go to your enhancement page and drag the icon to your toolbar to use the spell - you can then either remove the spell from your list - or keep it if you need the extra spammage potential.
