Check out This Blog for very up-to-date info regarding the series. It had alot of good news and trailers released yesterday along with the 6th book release date.
Holy **** he's not gonna die before the next book comes out.
Captain's Crew: (TR) Dingalbarian - Horc Barb20 - THF, Dingaladin - Human 18/2 Paladin/Monk - TWF, Lamepolicy - Squishy Drow - Wiz20 Archmage
Just enough time to read the first 4 again to refresh my memory in time for number 5. Exciting news!!!
Awesome!
Hopefully my namesake makes a breif appearance again! I really enjoyed the whole Lightening Lord episode, reminded me of a very twisted Robin Hood.
Sweet, after waiting 5 years I am going to have to reread the 1st 4 books in the series again. I am just finishing up the latest of Jim Butchers Codex Alera, 'First Lord’s Fury' and I am really looking forward to some new releases.
George RR Martin = wordy, long winded, and mostly slow. The occasional really good moments are usually separated by 200 pages of go nowhere text...
Captain's Crew - Ghallanda
This is one of the first negative reviews of the series that I've seen. I'm a couple hundred pages into the second book and really enjoying it. The first book was great, as well. But it's understandable that it's not everyone's cup of tea. My personal pet peeve is his tendency to start listing people's names and where they're from (like the participants in a tournament of knights, or an assemblage on a field of battle, or a bunch of ships at harbor). He does this over and over again, and I never know if I should be meticulously paying attention to yet-again-a-dozen-new-names characters or not. The most recent example of this had me putting the book down and hopping onto DDO (one of the main characters, a youngster named Bran, was receiving delegates from his father's far flung holdings). That's my only complaint. Hopefully it will make a great cable series.
Strange enough, I'm also reading Jim Butcher's Furies series now too. I'll definitely have to read Martin's Game of Thrones series again before the book release.
The series probably isn't my very favorite as it tends to be long-winded, but there are some real cunning twists that really pay you off for your persistence as a reader. Martin is absolutely ruthless with his characters which keeps you in genuine fear for the welfare of your favorites! I'd recommend the series overall. I also saw the HBO series trailer someone linked and so far I'm impressed. I'm hoping Game of Thrones turns out to be a better quality production than the Dresden Files TV adaptation or the Legend of the Seeker adaptation of the Sword of Truth. Both book series were excellent (especially the Dresden Files!), but lost something coming to television.
