    Default which build is better?

My friend kinda wants to play this game and he showed me these two builds that he said different people gave him. Which one should he use?

he might be open to something entirely different as well... if I could convince him why a build you guys gave me is much better. I'm not good enough to tell what's better either esp having never played a barbarian.

anyways here are the two builds:

for the above build he is 28 point but was thinking of dropping con some and wisdom to 13 if needed. he thinks that since this version has much more hp, he might not need the con so much in compared to the second one.

    here is second one:

There both quite bad. They make major mistakes on every possible area: Stats, Feats, Skills, Alignment...

Just get him to pick his prefered race, and select a build from my guide.. Then he will be MUCH better off.

    More dps?
THF has a slighy lead in dps right now for barbs as I show here:

of those builds, which would you say suffers the least from not eating tomes? He's new to the game and 28 point... I don't think he'd be much interested if I told him to unlock 32 points, and buy some tomes... and I already bought him vet status.

edit: just called him up... He says that he wants to twf and/or self heal... which is why he chose these 2 builds... if I remember right you cant wand heal when raged, and your going to be raged most of the time right?

as for his preferred race he's love to play an elf... but knows they aren't good barbarians. if he's not an elf he doesn't care what it is...
except human... he doesn't want to be one.

If he is looking for a self-healing build or class, barbarian is not the best choice.

As for two-weapon fighting - he will need at least a 17 dex to qualify for greater two weapon fighting - hard to do with only 28 points and no tomes.

    Not recommended.

Cleric dille is a waste on a barb... first off to run a barb general idea is to rage all the quest. To get an idea of a good barbarian Shade's guidline poises and holds much truth to be barbarian.

here, if you want to be a barb.

go dwarf, its f2p and not a bad choice considering their more damage with axes.
go all STR and all CON. maybe a bit in dex i guess, not like your ac will ever matter though.
THF, ITHF, GTHF, Toughness, Power Attack, Cleave. all 6 feats, done. probably with the underneath other.
Toughness, Power Attack, Cleave, THF, GTHF, ITHF. (if you switch cleave to any later than level 6, you'll be putting off your prestige, but you can if you want.
    HP: plenty.
    AC: lol.
Weapon: Greataxe. (dwarf will make for higher damage with axes, and with barb THFness, good combo)

I'd actually build it on a builder, but im not on my computer. :/

Be sure to get a healing amp, as itll be hard to heal you from like 15% to 90% with all that hp.
as for enhancements, prestige, better power attack and better rages, more HP, better killingness, etc.

I dont see where he stated that he wants to solo, but for argument sake DDO is ALSO about soloing, if that is what someone desires.

A Barb that heals? I am sure you mean when hes not raging? If that is the case - there is a multitude of options, from 2 levels of rogue to 2 levels of ranger for wand usage. But a pure Barb is the way to go. IF he garners enough favor from the Silver flame he can obtain some very potent Silver flame pots for great heals.

    Bottoms up!

he's mostly going to be playing with me, and I hope I can convince him to get into my guild if he likes the game enough so I don't see him soloing... but of course if he enjoys the game, he will want to play it on his own.

yeah I think healing in-between fights unraged is ideal you say staying pure is good, so that's also why he went the h-elf cleric dille with the idea of staying pure. (I had told him it's prob best to stay pure for his first chr)

As per shades builds, I'm unsure how drastic of a change it would be to not eat any tomes and be 28 points... or how it would look after that for example would lowering str to 16 so I can hit the other min requirements work out?

if it makes any difference, I will be partying with him most of the time on my bard warchanter, or my assassin rogue. (both are dex based halflings.)
both are also twf and I think that's why he wants to Dual wield... because he saw me doing it. Still I might be able to convince him to go THF instead.

    He's set on Barbarian though.

On a barb don't ever lower strength. Barbs are all about max strength and hit points. If he wants to be a barb and f2p without classes like WF or Horc then go dwarf max strenth and 16 con and put the rest in intel for skill points.

As for self healing he just needs to buy a stack of heal poitions or get hierlings.

i beg to differ on the 'don't ever lower str' comment here... an 18 str horc or even a 16 str dwarf isnt bad and recently i rolled a 16 14 20 8 8 6 dwarf barb with the intent of being uber hp and DR tank and so far while raged he has 30 str and 38 con (with ship buffs) and he could even have another +2 to con with a tome or +4 with tome and the 2nd tier con enhancements, also he can rage for just over 3 min at lvl 8. i must say with proper gear and a good player a nonmaxed str barb can be quite good

Edit: he's also soloed most quests up to this point with no hireling except on elite where i always bring an FvS hireling just in case sumthing goes wrong

All of my builds are 28-point builds and are designed with new players in mind. No tomes required. I do offer 32/34/36 point varients for some of them, but thats just to be more complete, not as a requirement.

Having a dex tome for TWF is recommended, but its always possible to just continue on lvling and do a respec later to fix it once he reaches 1750 favor to get his +2 dex tome should he not be able to get one before then. Correct starting dex for TWF is always 15, new players and veterans alike.

Only exception may be if you already have a +3/4 dex tome, in which case youd start 13/14 base. Tho you can always start 15, get said tomes and do a lesser reincarnate to fix stats these days. Thus what I did on my TWF who currently has a 14 base dex and GTWF.

    self heal?
huh. if you wanna solo you got 2 options (if you go barbarian), first is to take pots, serious cure or silver flame's pots.
or you can just bring a hireling..
but umd/cleric/fvs multiclassing just isnt barbarian.
