So while i was casting stuff on harry yesterday, i was wondering, how much damage am i actually doing compared to the melees?

search the forums for a 'dps challenge part 2' thread. there's a couple targets you can test against and then do your calculations that way

the thread is meant for melee, but there should be enough info there to figure it out

*IF* the melee are fully optimized (ie the ones that eat shrouds for breakfast) then the sorcerer does about 1/3rd to 1/2 their damage, and you do about half the DPS that the sorcerer does...

...and yet it's sad how many melees can be outDPS'd by arcanes.

I'm tempted to take my non-Eardweller wizzy against he portal and time myself as well, just to see.

My PC can't handle video capture easily though, so that may be problematic. Still, I wonder how much DPS just things like the necrotic bolt/blast/burst + death aura kick out. The recent event was fun to watch and time things - who takes down the hobgoblin in CC 25 faster? My wall of fire, or the melee dude? How about my necrotic funky stuff?

Testing the portal right now after hitting lvl 19 last night on my TR'd evoker missile build. Even with a terrible, unoptimized spell combo I'm beating the best entry in the dps challenge by 3 seconds. With missiles alone I can match the best entry.

I've spotted a few wizard build options which will outdo my current dps, gonna try one out after some testing.

So, in reply to the OP, for a small or medium sized boss fight, evoker wizard DPS is higher than any melee or ranger can muster, especially against anything that takes damage from firewall.

The DPS tapers off in long fights lasting more than a minute or 2, unless you use sp pots, in which case you will dominate for the first 3 minutes of eardweller time then still be about the same as the best melee with 75% pots.

After testing this, I know now why I never fail to get boss aggro when I go all out.

It'd be interesting to test a burst-DPS vs. a more sustainable DPS.

Eardweller + mana dump is one thing. You'd never do that on a shroud portal. What about just the evocation missils + AM, or just the PM+necrotic with one or two area spells running?
