I met a newb this morning

And he was awesome.

My lfm was the standard know your way, be self sufficient. I got the typical waves of 'share plz' which I responded with dismissing.

When he joined he stated he was a newer player right away. I was surprised when he said that he had been playing less than a week, not only was he able to find his way to stk, he was carrying cure pots (lvl 5 fighter).

He summoned a cleric hireling which I asked to be dismissed. He did. I also suggest sword and boarding is frowned upon. He thanked me for pointing that out and promptly swapped to a great axe.

while we milked the exp he had quite a few questions about multiclassing and class combinations. We had 3 other vets in the party that also participated in answering his questions. He kept up just fine and shared experiences with the game he came from (WoW).

The best part was in part 2 near the end. I got held with an unlucky roll and was promptly annihilated by the hobgoblins. He carried my soul stone to the shrine

Apparently he found the quest by looking at the ddowiki. I wish more means that I came across used resources like this.

I met one last week myself. They are out there.
Was sitting around chatting with a group of people. Mentioned how I was getting close to 300hp on my 12 fighter, and a level 8 cleric admitted to only having 76hp.

I sent her a tell, asking about her build, and explaining how she may start struggling, and ways to improve her character.

She let me know she was new, asked some questions, then did what very few people would do with their first and only character, who was level 8. She rerolled right then.

I spent an hour or two, answering her questions, discussing build options, and clearing my bank. (she thought I was giving gifts, when really I was using her XD)

I told her, I would help her as best as I could with bringing her back to level 8, the next night, if she was on. It was getting late and I had plans most of the next day.

I log on about 20 hours later, and bam, she's level 8 again with over 100hp more then her first roll. Someone had found her, appreciated her as well, and blew through levels with her. (I was a bit jealous at her leveling speed, honestly)

So, there are awesome newbies out there! You just may need some patience. I now have a new friend, and seeing as she's almost my level now, a cleric whenever I need one =D

I would have sent him:

500 Haste pots and Cure Serious (Makes him not want to play with out these! esp the haste)
100 Bull pots, barkskins
50 x lightning, fire
20 Neutral poison.
a +4 or +5 mith FP,
a +1 holy maul
A great axe (+2 shock of right.. or something)

In the mail I would write "do you want to know more?"

Since he got the potential this will totally ruin his days of casual gaming :P

With some slight mentoring any new player with interest of learning the ropes can turn into a fine addition to the community.. I would hardly categorize the average DDO gamer as a "gamer", oddly, the total lack of "eurm.. how do you do that?" kind a questions is not to be found...

Actually, with the event running you are more likely to run into more of this kind of player questing than you normally would. They are out for xp not shinnies. I jumped into a pug full of them today, it was quite fun.
