That being said, try his "Imager" books too. I rather like them.

Dresden is amaaaazing! Can't wait for the new one to come out in July! Muffinlad turned me on to that series and I owe him my firstborn child. He also recommended "The Magicians" by Lev Grossman which I loooooved as well - kind of grown up Harry Potter meets C.S. Lewis.

    Muffin, Mama needs more recommendations.

Reading the 3rd book of the GRRM series again. Just finished I am Number Four, was really hoping that the other books would be written soon.

Just bought a Nook with my taxes and have been obsessively downloading more books than actually reading them, lol!

I had originally read the first three Spider Queen War books in R.A. Salvatores series, but not finished it, so I ended up grabbing all 6 on the Nook. It's been several years since I read the first 3, so need to re-read them and then finish the series off. I liked how well they meshed together, despite being written by different authors.

After those, I'm gonna read LOTR. Seen the movies, never read the books. Looking forward to those!

At the moment not reading much at all. That's because the new Patrick Rothfuss comes out March 1st. Good thing too, because I'll need a break from all teh farming I plan on doing today and Sunday. And it's not like the new Scott Lynch is coming out any time soon (Gentelmen Bastards series is sooooooo good. Sadly only the 2 so far, and the new one is on a GRRM style delay.) Check out "The Lies of Locke Lamora" if you want a seriously fun and twisted read. Think a gritty version of Ocean's 11, except set in a fantasy realm.

As far s Jim Butcher goes, the man is a writing machine. All of the Dresden books are fun, but they really don't take off until the 4th one IMO. And Dead Beat is still my favorite one of his series. I liked his Codex Alara series too. It's not as good as the Dresden series, but still a fun read. If you find you like him and his style of hero, you may want to try reading Brian Haig's books. The guy can write, even if it is a "real world" action/thriller book. His hero is basically channeling Dresden's vibe. The first one is called "Secret Sanction". It's the weakest of his books, but all of his books are still pretty great reads to me.

Good reads, but they are not for the feint of heart. They are soooo rough to get through. Basically imagine how fast you might read a normal page in a book. Now multiply that by 10. That's about the fastest pace I ever managed while reading any of his books. I kept having to read the same paragraph like 3-4 times to make certain i knew what was happening.

Well since they don't seem to publish new books I want to read as fast as I read them I am re-reading a few old favorites.

Currently I am reading Kill the Dead by Richard Kadrey, the sequel to his Sandman Slim book.

After that I will either re-read Brent Weeks The Night Angel Trilogy or The Left Hand of God by Paul Hoffman. After that who knows.

We looked at the color one, but couldn't really justify the extra $50 for it. Although the hubby would have loved it if I had said yes :P

That's kind of how I am with King's stuff. Love the books, but I always find myself re-reading to make sure I got it. Will see how these go, maybe it won't be quite as bad :P

Ever try reading the Sword of Shannara series? It was so tiresome to read that I felt like I'd run a couple of marathons by the time I finished. Even though I usually keep my books to re-read those I gave away the first chance I got.

I still don't know if giving them to Goodwill was a charitable thing to do or really really evil.

Yeah I like those too, just waiting to get my hands on book 3 now. Modesitt's one of those rare authors that I can actually say I've liked everything I've read by him.

I recently worked with a guy who had never seen Pulp Fiction. I told him I wished I'd never seen it so I could watch it for the first time, again. I read The Hobbit when I was twelve because C. S. Lewis had written praise of them, then struggled through LOTR when I was thirteen and even after having read all the Fictional works on St. John's Great Books list, I can honestly say I've never read better than Tolkien.

Just reread Soul Music by Terry Pratchett. It's one of my favorites, out his books (which I generally love).

Also reading a massive tome on C++, just got the Magic of Eberron in from Amazon (3.5e book) I've got to look through, and later a book on WWI that my mom found me.
