I was amazed and shocked by the first book. It was incredibly intricate, well written, and compelling. I put the third book down in disgust and have had no desire to ever pick it up again. I read escapism to follow the chronicles of characters I like, not to have them torn apart before me. I could stomach some of the "thinning of the herd", but the slaughter in the third book was a bridge too far.

As for what I'm reading now, I just finished reading The Great Reset by Richard Florida. It's an interesting comparative analysis of the financial meltdown alongside the previous economic crises of the 1870's and the 1930's. I'm reading a few HP Lovecraft short stories here and there, and I'm trying to decide what to start on next. I'm about halfway through The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Heinlein, but I seem to have misplaced it.

I'm re-reading The First Law series by Joe Abercrombie. If you haven't heard of it, pick it up - it's great!

I'm also waiting for the last WoT book. I agree I really like that Brandon Sanderson has improved the series immensely, and has finally created a sense of urgency that I think was missing from the last 7 or so books...

I work as a cataloger in a large college library, so I get to see, page through, and read bits and pieces of dozens of books per day. After work, I do read some but don't tend to want to do a lot of fiction reading.

Probably the last book I read from start to finish was Tom Clancy's The Hunt for Red October.

If you enjoyed that book, you may enjoy Dead or Alive. It has Jack Ryan in it again.

Currently 2/3 of the way thru Murakami's "Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World". Excellent, excellent book.

I've frequently had difficulty understanding his popularity, but I'll allow as I've been a huge fan of authors who lack critical acclaim, too. I read the Drizzt books primarily because there were so many references to it here, but they'll never be on St. John's College's reading list.

Was having a guilty pleasures week (as well as trying suggestions from family).

Bearers of the Black Staff by Terry Brooks
Gauntlegrym by R.A. Salvatore (I really read these for the fighting scenes..they are about as realistic as game balance in DDO, so obviously I am a lenient reader when the mood suits).

Currently working thru I Am Number Four...if this follows the rule of "the book is better than the movie" I think I'll wait until I'm hammered and the movie is on HBO.

I've got a re-read of The Eye of the World coming up fast as I prepare for that series to close in a little over a year.

I think I read Campbell (Well of Souls/Charon?) back in the eighties.

I am currently up to the Mahaprasthanika Parva in what can only be described as the most commited trolling of my lady's parents that I have attempted so far.

OSS-H (The current phase of Operation Sunday Sleep-in) is exceeding all expectations at this time.

The graphic novels are actually quite enjoyable.

    The books, alas, are not...

Space by James Michener. I really enjoy most of his books that I've read so far, excepting The Drifters (couldn't get into it after 100 pages and gave up). Favourite was The Source.

Going to check out Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil soon, saw the film recently and was amazed to find it was directed by Clint Eastwood.

In literature as in love, we are astonished at what is chosen by others.
    Andre Maurois (1885 - 1967)

I am currently finishing up Liberating Atlantis, by Harry Turteldove. Its the first series I have read by him, and I fully intend to read his series on the Confederate States of America.

After this book, I will switch back to Eberron novels for a while. I want to read Legacy of Wolves by Marsheila Rockwell before her Sept release of Shard Axe (the DDO novel). Then I might pick up some Tim Waggoner novels and then go back to Turtledove.

Thought the last one was due this fall (November-ish)?

I went recently and read some past books by Brandon Sanderson (the guy finishing up Wheel of Time). Gotta say I enjoyed them. (Mistborn series)

Started on new E.E.Knight series. (Age of Fire) Interesting read, with dragons being the main characters....
