Just finished Clive Cussler's "The Wrecker" Now I have to scour the bookshelves for something.

I've been wanting to re-read the Shattered Chain sub-series of M.Z. Bradley's Darkover series.

    Cheers,

I just finished "House of Many Ways" the sequel to "Howl's Moving Castle" by Diana Wynn Jones.
Going to start the "Dealing with Dragons" series or "The Enchanted Forest", whichever you call it, whenever the ups man brings me the first book! I have the other three..just missing the one.

Also I want to find some Dungeons and Dragons material to read, any suggestions?

If you like Cussler. Can I suggest you have a look at Matthew Riley. Have just finished reading his books for the second time. Totally enjoyable..

Rereading Steven Brust's Jhereg series. I like to read the entire series when a new book is about to come out, so I can catch all the little Easter eggs he drops everywhere.

Thanks, I'll check him out. Another Cussler-like author is Jack DuBrul. He and Cussler have co-authored some stuff, and his Mercer series reads just like Cussler.

Switching between The Silmarillion and Areas of My Expertise, and boy, is it jarring to swap from one to the other.

By the third time you read the series, that's not so much of a problem.

I am currently reading... nothing. And not by choice. I brought my Kindle with me to Afghanistan, but about a week after I got here the screen broke. Looks like the top 2/3 of the screen are flooded with ink and it is getting worse. All the data (120 books or so) seems to be intact and I backed it all up on my computer, but untill I can get another I am SOL.

When my Kindle is working (grumble, grumble, moan) I was reading "A Mighty Fortress" by David Weber, book 4 of the Safehlod series. It is one of my current favorite series and I reccomend it to anyone that enjoys sci-fi/fantasy.

I have also enjoyed the Phillip Mercer books, but it has been a while since I read any of them. If you like Cussler and DuBrul you might want to try out James Rollins as well, his Sigma Force novels are above average and a good way to pass the time.

Anyone here a Preston&Child fan? I am thinking of picking up the newest Penderghast book, but before I order it and pay for the shipping and wait for it to be delivered to Bagram I want to know if it is worth the trouble.

Currently reading Knot Gneiss, latest book in the Piers Anthony Xanth series. Waiting for 3/1/11 when The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss comes out. Seems that most of what I do now is wait for books to come out, lol....

Matthew Riley is decent, but sometimes he manages to over-load my willing suspension of disbelief. His storys are definately fast paced, and would probably make a good action movie, but sometimes reading the super-human exploits of Scarecrow and Jack Whatshisname get to be a little much for me. Which is odd, because several of the books I enjoy tend to be more fantastic than Rileys, maybe there is just something about his writing style that does not sit well with me.

Incidentally, if you're able to make it through The Silmarillion, you should also try The Children of Hurin. Much lighter than The Silmarillion and the story outline is in there, but I found it to be an excellent book. Tolkien manages to make his dragons real, somehow.

O, is that a separate book? I always thought the Children of Hurin was inside the Silmarillion. D: If it's a separate one, I'll have to read it--I thought I'd read all of his stuff.

Recently finished reading Caverns of Socrates by Dennis L McKiernan, then moved on the the Honor Harrington books by David Weber and finished those last week. Now I have started re-reading the Wheel of Time series for the 6th or 7th (maybe 8th?) time.

I can plow through a good sized book in a couple, three days so I wind up re-reading a lot of stuff I already have while waiting for another book/series to catch my eye.

The basic story (though a bit different) is in there, just as LOTR is, but it's a separate write-up of the story in novel form. I found it to be really outstanding.
