    /signed, with conditions...

    for Chest:

ONLY if all items in locked chest become damaged/unusable, except coin, AND
ONLY if upon bashing locked chest, trap goes off killing all within vacinity, AND
ONLY if upon bashing chest ENTIRE dungeon re-spawns...

    for Doors:

ONLY if upon breaking locked door causes RED dungeon alert, AND
ONLY if upon breaking locked door ENTIRE dungeon re-spawns, AND
ONLY if upon breaking locked door, trap goes off killing all within vacinity...

of course, magically locked chests/doors can only be opened by spell or Rogue.

Yeah, I would like to bash at least some chests or wooden doors.

It's very strange when my barbarian or fighter can't bash that weak chest near trees in Redwillow's Ruins.

TH bludgeoning weapons should be more effective than say someone duel wielding khopeshes or even a great axe or great sword. it would be alot easier to get into a wooden chest or through a wooden door by bashing it with something big and heavy, rather than trying to chop through it.

I came up with the idea as something funny to say when sitting and waiting for something/someone while in a party, but it got some serious responses from the party members so I thought I'd post it on the forums and see what happened.

I'm for it. I mean my character knows there could be somthing of value in that chest, can't pick it, so figures he'll just leave it? Just leave it? If he can't bash or pry it open wouldn't he at least take it to get it opened? Doors especially. My character wants in, he's already murdered dozens on his way to the simple wooden door, but it's locked. He's just supposed to go home killing another couple dozen on the way?

Bashing should be available to all classes and races with a str check. + modifier for blunt weapon and a chance to break edged weapons. Lower the chest's loot table a couple levels, remove any possible named loot, and give a chance to ruin fragile stuff.

Doors much the same if they lead to a chest, but most I think would just kick it down.

And of course different doors/chest would have different DC. Solid metal door shouldn't be bashed, reinforced box should have a high DC, simple wooden a moderate. Magical chests can only be picked or knocked.

a TRUE barbarian would never sully his weapon by using it to hit a mere door. He would simply grab the nearest halfling and throw him through the door. A good weapon is hard to replace... a random halfling? Not so much.

There are lots of halflings in my guild. I would like to happily volunteer them for this service.

What's with all the "only if" its bull... Bash is bash, its available in the PnP game and in NWN/NWN2. Bashing makes a sound so let it make a sound, as if breaking a crate.
Why would it cause a red alert? Just because that'd be fun? Try to keep some kind of semblance to logic in the rules of the dungeons. In case enough mobs hear it to cause a red alert then its justified, not just as a deterrent from using a perfectly reasonable way to open chests/doors.
