Unhappy I have a serious problem....

I seem to have this obsession with deleting characters and making new ones. I'd like to play a character all the way so I can TR her.... but... I get either bored with my concept or don't like where its going. I think right now my highest character is my lvl 9 arcane archer ranger. I also have a lvl 6 wf wizard and a lvl 6 paladin. I'm having fun with these 3 right now but poor old slot number 4 is a perpetual character delete and remake slot. I've been playing close to like 2 months now and I'm sure my lvl 9 would have been 20 and tr'd by now if I didnt't have my problem. I've given up on character guides to find a fun build as I have no super high lvls to hunt down tomes that seem to be taken for granted in every build guide. Anyone else have my problem??

Characters can essentially do three things:

    1. Kill.
    2. Heal.
    3. Utility (buffs, traps).

You don't need any tomes to do any of these. Some builds can do more than one of these, but my advice to you is to focus on one and avoid gimmicks (e.g. arcane archer). Your wizard is one level away from Wall of Fire, which will enable it to Kill with great proficiency. See how that treats you, but keep in mind that the halfway point to capping as measured by experience is level 15. As such, my second piece of advice to you is to focus on what you're doing as opposed to where you will end up.

I've actually had this problem for a VERY long time, since 2009. (Different account). I would roll and roll and roll, trying to find something fun and exciting.. eventually I had four Level 9 Bards, a Level 14 Wizard, Level 4 Cleric, and a lot of multi-classing I wanted to try out. After I while, I was so tired of buying packs just to not even try them out! So I decided I wanted to actually hit level 20... I picked one character, deleted all the rest, and began leveling. Sure it was boring to level a cleric with such a small mana pool, heck.. It was VERY boring to level a cleric, until of course I got radiant servant... Spells every two levels, offensive spells? Everything got better past level 7... I was meeting new people trying to flag for VoN, people who actually wanted me to group with them.. lol. Eventually me and this other guy made a kind of 'static grouping' and would group almost everyday, and we made sure to stay in the same level range. It was a lot of fun.

So my advice: Roll up a toon, experience new quests to you, and just have fun!

Um...stop deleting characters? That seems like a pretty easy solution to your problem.

    You mean ADD?

Just kidding! Back when we had 10 slots for VIP, I probably deleted a dozen characters varying in level from 7-16 (16 was the cap at the time) for varying reasons, and dozens more of levels 1-4.

Either not quite as effective in practice as they were on paper, or just plain silly (wf bbn/wiz/brd - what was I thinking?!).

    I totally feel your anguish

I started the game in europe, was there for.... just under a year, roll fifteen odd chars. Had 2 I liked and stuck with then.... I just deleted them and moved to U.S.

Got a sorcerer and a wiz rogue to cap and a cleric to 16 then deleted and changed server.

Got a wiz rogue to 16 deleted and went back to original U.S server.

Got a sorcerer to cap, TR'd, got to 16... got bored and deleted. (my first try at tr, i did it as soon as i hit 20 so had little decent stuff)

Have currently got an exploiter, level 12 been there +5 months.
cleric level 9 been there +5 months.
My WF wiz TR'd, stuck at level 11 and im trying haaaaaard not to delete him but I got so frustrated with the TR ive actually got another WF wiz i took to cap as an AM enchanter. which i really enjoy.

My mains are the WF Am and my bard.

Ive deleted so many other chars ive forgotten. I tend to get to level 6-14 and for one reason or another, most similar to yours, I delete them. My exploiter, for example, i realised my AC was getting way off target and although i had good HP etc i was taking alot of healing and.... I just got bored.

Its a nightmare. But im really enjoying my 2 mains..... Im also really getting the itch to TR the wiz. I would like to do 2 more WIz lives.

I would also like to keep my bard but do a mini TR project. roll a barb for 2 lives then a dual weilding bard, as mines a 2hdr..... Im trying to do the barbarian at the moment but im lothed to TR my wizard incase i get the bug again

Consider spending tp on new toon slots, be it from $ or favor farming.
Overall it takes less tp to buy a new toon slot than a heart of wood to fix a toon.
It is safe to reroll up to lv 6 but higher ones can be kept as bag toons.

I've been playing for almost a year now, have taken just 2 toons to lvl 20, and another to 17 so far. I am an altaholic! Have 10 character slots full of alts from lvl 4-9. Have deleted many, many toons before lvl 10 for one reason or other.

There are tons of builds, many different ways to build the same toon. Takes me many attempts to tailor one to my specific playstyle. Some concepts just bore me, others just don't work out as planned, or I discover a different way of doing what I wanted.

Takes time to find the one you really like, but when you do it makes the game much more enjoyable.

thanks for answering! I see I'm not alone. I defiantly like my new wizard. Those WF are so durable! I think half the time I have more hp than the bards and rogues in my group. I went down the hard road and went acid/eletric instead of fire/cold. So no firewall for this gal! I do try and use acid rain likea poor mans acid version of firewall. Trust me.. I know the power of firewall. My lvl 9 ranger used it well when wizards casted it in groups.. just tumbling back and forth through it killed alot.

Most classes evolve. Some are fun early on, some become stronger down the road. Deleting characters before they are 20 removes the chance to learn that characters strengths and weaknesses which means you are more likely to repeat the mistakes from before. Leveling past 10 is different than leveling before 10. You need to take a few characters to 20 to experience that part of the game. Some of the characters you deleted early on may have been great fun at higher levels.

I had a friend like this is Everquest. He would get his high-elfs to level 10 or so and reroll. Personally, I don't like seeing the same zone THAT much. With TR's, I am already going to be seeing the same quests enough.

(Yes, I intentionally left out the once you are 20 part)

I had this same problem for about my first 10 months of play. Finally got four toons to level 11 1 to lvl 10, 1 to lvl 8 2 to lvl 7 and one to lvl 6. I finally decided I wanted to cap one. I have focused on two for the past two months and have lvl 18 pure fighter and lvl 17 pure cleric. I figure I'll settle in right here with these two now for quite awhile so I can get as much crafting and ing farming done as I can before I bring the rest up to cap.

I figure these frist two will be capped in a few weeks, and I can start leveling up one of the others.

I have that problem also, I always think something is going to be better than it was previously.......Well working on a monster dwarf build, hopes for the best. Play a healer, try not to get too bored with her/him. Play the her for the nice back side. xD You shouldn't get bored.......

I am a self-admitted altoholic, but I can't bear myself to delete my chars, even if they are seriously broken.
I try to slowly level every char; some I manage to bring to higher levels, others get promoted to mules, and level up more slowly.

I do this all the time...and in fact instead of doing a TR, I'd rather delete and start over again. Yeah the TR benefits are nice...but the extrended exp thing just bugs me...and I WILL get a fi/wizard working without having to resort to TR feats...maybe...

Hi, My name is Licho, and im Altoholic. :-)

The issue is quite popular, im to deleated several lowbie toons, the good thing is to run them to at least 100 favor so each delate is also +25TP.

What helps is switching betwean toons, so far im playing wizzy, and if want difference getting to AA or cleric.

Well, I had the same problem and now at least i know low level quests very well. :P
On the other hand, the best way to get rid of your addiction is to get a Veteran build unlocked. Then
make loads of lvl 4 characters and see how they turn out, but always keep one main character. I used this tactic for making various builds which made sense and didn't made sense. My addiction to experimenting stopped because I figured out I'm only wasting time while I could've built a strong character and level it to 20 by that time.
My addiction came from a desire to build something spectacular. The only way spectacular happens is getting a good build and sticking to it until lvl 20. Experimenting is pretty much done so far and there's no point in inventing lukewarm water. There are plenty of good builds out there.

Mixing classes are usually very fun. Wizard Rogue, Solar Pheonix, etc. Most of them are solo builds tho.

    i had a similar problem when i started playing. i couldn't get a character past level 10 without re-rolling/deleting.
my reason was somewhat different: i found it hard to get into groups. this was at the time that the level cap was
14 though. i wasn't "totally" incompetent but neither was i geared to compete with the uber types. (not a f2p rant, this was at least 2 years before f2p happened)
from that point of view, running the wizzy is the best bet. you won't be "uber" but you'll be able to contribute to any party. and in a little bit,
you won't even need to join parties, you can use your wizzy to farm for twink items for
    other characters.
