i'd be curious of what your friends build and feat layout is i also have a monk tank build with a standing 40 str but only 720 hp standing and i used a ton of feats for toughness and have everything for hp besides the +4 con tome 460.6% healing amp.

Cure serious pots for 90-120 lay on hands for 515 and fists of light finisher caps out at 331.

Oh and by the way (referring to your sig), we aren't nerfing the Torc.

Hey, on top of that Horoth doesn't bolt across the room because I got stunned and missed an intimidate. fancy that.
Being an AC tank doesn't mean you can't hold aggro with DPS.

My Fighter past lives I regularly tanked Elite with no strain on the healers (almost completely scroll-healed throughout the entire fight).

Hey, on top of that you don't even have to have the rest of the party wait while you establish aggro. fancy that.

Generalizations aside, if you have someone that's willing and able to tank well, it's probably going to be a smooth run, regardless of their class or their method of tanking.

If the group intends to not kill Sally (like the OP seemed to be indicating was going to be his/her case), you obviously know that ahead of time. If you have problems on the way to part 3 and change your mind later, sure you might have some grumbling, but if things are going smoothly and it's announced that you're not going to kill Sally...

That's pretty much what it was, life - stuffing a whole bunch of toughness feats on.

His trick, is having someone eyeball the banishment attempts, then quickly swaps to madstone boots for the boost, then swaps back. risky, but life is more fun on the edge

I don't disagree with this at all, and I don't see how that refers to my post - I was just pointing out that the generalization that all half-orc barbs are mana-sponges and make terrible tanks. One of my older toons was an exploiter who could take basically anything in the game up to TOD, full DPSing to hold aggro while maintaining 75+ AC.

AC tanks work extremely well, most people who play these properly keep them in guild though.

I personally know if we will kill suulo or not before we enter the raid - and if it's my raid, I will always kill him on normal. It's a simple matter of not taking the lottery of auto-accepting everyone who hits the LFM.

two proper tanks and a light monk are not that hard to get.
